So would you consider the launch of PS360 to be rubbish? The Wii U is currently selling the combined numbers of PS360 - that's pretty good in my book, and only trading behind the Wii by a fairly small amount...

and making profit per game.

The others had to wait years.

Word!

Nintendo needs games. They need to win 3rd party support and over the years we've seen Nintendo slowly gain back support they've lost (Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter, etc) but we need more. Imagine FF XV on Wii U! The next Metal Gear game. Nintendo needs to do some serious thinking because if they don't, PS3 and Xbox 360 are going to continue getting the games, and PS4 and Nextbox are going to continue where those left off. So its on Nintendo now. Its easier to knock down a tower than build it, but they better build fast cause its a short time frame, and games take 1 1/2 - 2 years to make.

Man, I hear ya! They need that 3rd party support! But I think they did the right thing publishing Bayo2 - I think that gives a lot of good faith. What they need is Western studios to back them up; I think Japan will be in their pockets this gen...

It's not doing well....it's being outsold by much older consoles and developers aren't developing for it....Other then the die hard Nintendo fans and console collectors out there, I can't see it having a bright future.

So then I guess you thought the launch of PS360 sucked even more? You know.... since Wii U is outselling them both combined??

Well, if Nintendo's stock price is any indicator, it's not doing well at all. Nintendo stock in the U.S. at least, will hit a fresh 52 week low tomorrow.

A very un-merry Nintendo Christmas.

Nintendo NTDOY shares currently trade at 2005 levels, before the Wii, the 3DS, or the Wii U were sparkles in Miyamoto's eyes.

When you consider that Nintendo loses money on each Wii U sold, and the attach rate is reportedly a measly 1.2 at retail...the Wii U is doing badly.

Lastly I don't believe in the "every console has problems at launch so it's ok for the Wii U" group-think that pervades gamer minds. I think the half-baked console with huge chunks of missing and clunky software, shows a lack of excellence within the company.

Man you must have really hated the Xbox360 then? Since it actually broke due to poor quality... And we still haven't gotten any numbers for the eShop, so far all we know it could have an attach rate of 5! I doubt it though, but I think the attach rate is higher than 1.2 at least

It got outsold by the 360 by 4000,  (which are actually approx numbers btw) and it's not doing well even though it's doing better than that exact console and the ps3 did at there launch?

Yeah, right. Try harder.

The xbox is 7 years old...The PS3 is 6 years old. For a new console to not outsell last gen consoles is worrying.

Also news keeps on rolling in of games not being released on it.

Try harder? No, just don't get pissy when you don't like the facts.

You're comparing a launch console to older consoles with many price cuts each and alot more aware to the public. I also stated (which you didn't reply to yet you say you have "the facts") that it's doing better than both the ps3 and the console you are comparing it to, the 360's launches. Compare launch for launch, the ps2 was selling more than the 360 and ps3 when they launched..... It's more than normal given the situation. Check the "facts" yourself before commenting or you just come off as someone trying to down-play the WiiU's launch.

No it's doing better then those consoles at launch but not currently better then them. As those consoles seem to be it's direct competition, that means the competition is outselling it.

Why compare launch for launch? That is playing ignorant to the fact that the current market & economy are very different to how they were 6 years ago.

Talking of ignoring things you've completely ignored all the devs and games not coming out for the Wii U. Also as you have admitted, the Wii U isn't as known to the public as the other consoles, which sounds like a marketting failure on Nintendo's behalf.

@Bolded: Yeah, they're worse today! So considering that, the Wii U is selling fantastic! Good point Mazty! Haven't thought about that earlier :D

I voted for the third option, mostly because of the low sales in Europe so far, but in hindsight I probably should have gone with option two.

While it hasn't exploded onto the scene like the Wii did (which was not easy to find in stores for over a year), I'd like to think that WiiU won't spend the last two years of its life in a coma, either.

Yeah, Europe is a bit worrying... Do you think it's because of the econimic situation? Or that they simply haven't taken to the Wii U yet?

Come on, Mazty.  I thought you were getting better than this nonsense.  I was starting to see hope for you above the others.

We've already gone over the 3rd party support (Not perfect but better than Wii and Nintendo hasn't announced the line up for anything beyond Q1 2013 except for Pikmin 3 which was originally Q1 anyway).

But worse is how you claim older consoles outselling the Wii U means it's not doing well.   This is a fact that happens to pretty much every single launch console ever.  Even the PS2 was outsold by the older consoles at launch.  As was the DS.   The 2 best selling consoles of all time.  And I know you know this so why did you post on the contrary?

Because he's a Nintendo basher... It's just sad, really.

You know, I suspected that other systems had been outsold at launch by older consoles, but I didn't quite know where to find those figures, so I kinda dropped it. Glad you brought it up Viper =) you're rock solid!

Thanks, Danne.

I should clarify that "launch" is being a bit broadly used too. I should more specifically say the holiday period since not all consoles launch just before the holidays start. Staggered launches (like most of those in the past) also tend allow a new console to have higher quantities of product for that launch region than as happens with consoles that have a simultaneous or near-simultaneous launch since product must be more evenly distributed around rather than concentrated heavily on one region.

Could be, I've had too many expenses this month so have to buy it next year... But I also see:

Basic pack is the most expensive of the three market, while the premium is comparable to Japan's.

Few titles from the NA launch line-up have been spread out to next year.

Not sure if these things have much influence or not.
