Until a few years ago, I guess I was an 'easy prey', nowadays it´s very hard for me to fall for the hype, even if it´s, for example, the sequel to a game I really enjoy.Now I try to 'take my time' and don´t go blindly getting a game just for the hype alone.I´m not perfect so sometimes I still make the same mistake.

I still remember, back in June or July 1998, right before I got the PS1 (only had an N64, and I loved JRPGs back then), I was starved for games (those who had an N64 surely remember the drought), especially RPGs...and completely fell for the hype surrounding Quest 64, needless to say, what a shitty game and HUGE disappointment.

Never did, never will, only games I am interested in.
Skyrim I was very much looking forward too and it had massive hype.
Gravity Rush was a game I was looking forward too and had no hype.

I fell for the 3DS. I assumed:

1) The 3D was amazing if only it could be seen in person
2) Games I liked were coming

2) didn't happen except Mario Kart,and with 1) I turned it on for 10s, went 'that's nice but it kinda hurts my eyes and not really worth it' and turned it back off forever.

This is why I'm not buying a Wii U until the hardware gets used for more than minigames and there are at least 2 other games I want other than Mario U.

Not that easily. The Vita is the earliest I've ever bought a console and then only because of the Black Friday price cut. Usually I wait for the first official price cut/redesign. Didn't buy a PS3 until the Slim came along.

With games, I very rarely ever pay full price and then only when I know it's something I want. Borderlands 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Dragon Age 2, Gran Turismo games, and not many else.

The last time I got taken hook, line, and sinker was when Final Fantasy VII was released. It sold me on the original Playstation as soon as I saw the commercial.

i never fall for hype. not even with games.

i see a game that's interesting, track it, and if it's good, then i'll get it, and if not then i won't. there are exception like UC, GT, Infamous, KZ, GEARS, hopefully the last of us, R&C,. mostly 90% of Sony 1st party exclusives.

I don't fall for hype of anything. But sometimes it's fun to release your inner child and allow yourself to be swept away in it. I bought a WiiU, 5 games some controlers and on Christmas vacation this year I'm going to party like it's 1990.

I fell into the PS3 hype during the launch. Spent over $900 on that day that picking up the PS3 day 1. After that, never I again will be hype for new consoles, I'm still hype over games though.

Yup, that's part of the fun of gaming. WiiU is wrapped and ready for christmas morning.
Not to risk any frustration I did all the setup, charging and got all the patches for the games before wrapping it up.

Some games are better with a bit of hype. It's harder to keep interest in sequel after sequel without a bit of buzz. And with trade ins you might as well play it on day 1 and get half or more back within the first month if it turns out not to be a keeper. AC3 only cost me $17 that way, the more hype a game gets, the better the trade in value. When I wait for the price to drop I'm usually not interested anymore. Crysis 2 for example, $9.99 on Steam this weekend, don't feel it.

Eh,I go all out on console launches, I buy the console and all the trimmings. For example

Vita: Bought the 3g version, official case, uncharted golden abyss, wipeout, rayman origins, mutant blobs attack, super stardust delta.

Wii U: Deluxe Version, NSMBU, Sonic Racing Transformed, ZombiU, Darksiders 2, Assassins Creed 3, Black Ops 2, Scribblenauts unlimited, Little Inferno, Nano Assault Neo, Pro controller, Silicone gamepad Case.


Just let yourself get swept up in it, it may be stupid, but life's too short, might as well spend on something you love.

Since the Crysis 2? I swore to never fall in to any hype... Hek I wasn't even hyped for Halo 4 but it turned out one heck of a game.
