Enter the Wii fan. Yes, it matters even though the next gen has started. It's about lifetime sales. Besides, the WiiU can hardly be considered "next gen". |
It can be and it is. Graphics aren't only thing that signifies the next generation.
It's funny how the X360 got a temporary $50 dollar price cut for the holiday and the PS3 got a $20 dollar price rise after the E3. And the PS3 is still selling as well, if not better. I only mentioned it because both consoles are bundle with a Game or 2 and I would have thought the PS3 would have had lower sales and the X360 would of had a higher sell rate in all areas. With that said, the 360 is still selling better in the US and the PS3 is still selling better in Europe.
But nonetheless, both consoles are doing well with the prices they currently have.
Console hardware generations are measured by the time frame in which they were released and sold, not by the specifications.
Yes, the Wii was powered by updated 6th gen hardware with an all new UI, but it will still go down in history as Nintendo's 7th gen console, regardless of personal opinion.
The Wii U is the first of the 8th generation of consoles and no opinion is going to change that, regardless of the hardware specs.
I'm actually a little disappointed in some of the responses to this thread. I figured they'd be more along the lines of "it doesn't matter that Sony has sold more hardware than MS since the debut of the PS3; the generation is over/almost over/now irrelevant" but instead we're getting "why did it take so long" and the like.
In all fairness, it doesn't really matter whether the PS3 ends up selling more units than the 360 because the current generation is well past the point where hardware sales influence developer support. At this point, it really is just a matter of internet fanboys arguing over who was right years ago.
About the only thing either MS or SCE are concerned about are pulling whatever profits they can from fully matured hardware platforms before their successors take over in terms of market relevance (which may be another 1+ year past the next gen consoles' debut).
And for the record, it's more likely than not that the PS3 will match, if not exceed sales of the 360 when all is said and done which will mean nothing by the time that happens.

Please enlighten us on exactly what constitutes "next gen"..... I own all of the currently available systems and I would consider the Wii U "next gen". Do you own one?
Stop hating and start playing.

Microsoft has been looking for reasons not to drop the cost of the 360's, bundling it with anything they can. The Xbox 360's haven't dropped price in god knows how long. It's only had $100 of the price cut in seven years. Based on Sonys price cuts the 360 should competitively be around $150. Their bundles have sold stellar so kudos to them.
MB1025 said: How is that when the thread below us says gap nearly 2 Million as of December 8th? Wasn't the gap always around 2 million? |
The gap was in 3.25 million in beginning of 2012. Today is 1.95 million.

Well that's just not true at all.

Yeah... we know our place... third!!!! =P I'm amazed by how fast is Kowenicki to answer any sony thread... he knows what he is. OT: I think PS3 and 360 will be almost tied when everything is said and done. |
really, they are tied. by being so close together i will say both share second place with wii leading. no childish arguing who was first and all this stuff, which doesn't interest anyone but the fanboys. ps360 second, and that's it. overtake-partys will still happen if ps3 ever has more sold units than x360 but by then nobody will care about it - except the fanboys, again.
