I hope they don't go that route with Zelda.

Realistic graphics won't work too well on a franchise like Zelda where magic, fantasy and mythology is so important. Besides realism has never been a goal in the development of a Zelda game. I think that graphics like Twilight Princess or the ones from the WiiU tech demo are the most realistic thing we'll get for Zelda, and for me that's fine.

On the other hand, there are other Nintendo games that could make use of such graphics like Metroid, F-Zero or Endless Ocean.

@bolded Just...completely disagree. I'm not sure what else to say :D

It's ok, I know it's just my point of view.

But with realistic graphics there are some aspects of Zelda games that wouldn't work. A silent Link, the Gorons, cutting the grass to get rupees, etc.

Well in my ideal Zelda Link would no longer be silent, but you could work it into the story. Born a mute/ cursed by some evil so he can't speak etc. Gorons could totally work, think LOTR cave troll just less ugly. The rupees...I'll give you that.

I kind of agree with you. I wouldn't want a full-on realistic Zelda, because I agree with Nintendo in thinking that sticking close to realism can endanger the fantastical elements of the game (which I believe are just as relevant in terms of immersion). However, it's completely possible to strike a better balance between the real and etherial. Twilight Princess managed to pull it off to some extent. Maybe a slightly more vibrant color palette could preserve the character of the series while detailed environments and characters keep the game grounded firmly in reality. In any case, the SS art style did a decent job of complementing the story direction and the gameplay. Ultimately what Nintendo decides will depend on their goals, which in the case of the eventual Wii U Zelda, I hope they're interested in what the system's power can do to enhance the experience as opposed to focusing mainly on the controller aspect again.

This whole graphics boat is starting to leave me behind... I just don't care. These days I'd rather play Gravity Guy than a game that looks like that... unless it's Gravity Guy.

i thought you had the ultimate 3 screen PC setup

ot i like my fanatsy worlds getting better and better personally,so it looks good to me

I have a 4 monitor setup now...I put a touch screen on the bottom and slanted backwards which runs my Windows 8 tiles interface while the 3 monitors run desktop in eyefinity.

I hardly play games with that setup anymore though. Halo 4 sucks up the little game time I have...and Gravity Guy of course. My friend just posted a score that put him ahead by like 20,000 pts. This is unnaceptable...

lol, that's a good idea. I saw the Windows 8 version of this came out few days ago...maybe multiple screens will give me the edge I need to own the high score.  I've been playing it on the Windows phone and on the iphone years ago but recently the game became popular again because 2 of my friends got it and the leaderboards reflect when someone breaks a high score between us...

Can't go realistic, Nintendos products would lose their allure. HD fine, but realistic?

I'm just talking about Zelda's graphics, not Nintendo products as a whole, just Zelda. And I'm just talking about graphics, not style or fantasy or anything like that. Just visuals. I think OoT was quite real-looking for its time, and even the proportions were in tune with real life (Adult Link, Ganondorf). So I think it's completely reasonable to say I wished Zelda x could look like this.

I  think it's a safe beat that we one day will see Zelda with those kind of graphics. It's just a matter of time. I'm not sure if we'll see it this gen though... I'm hoping for it! Man, I want a beautiful Zelda game!!

Zelda is supposed to primarily attract children to teenagers, which is why they choose the specific color schemes, so I agree that Nintendo will never go after the adult crowd with him unless Miyamoto and the older dudes die. Super Mario uses bright primary colors which attract children and the same with Kirby and Pokemon.    You're right though, Metroid, F Zero and Xenosaga are probably the best bets to go realistic.

Looks pretty kool, but I can never tell leaps in graphics anymore unless I have like a game from 2009 and a game from 2012 sitting there playing at the same time.

Do you think that the game would appeal to families at that point?

Who they fuck needs kids and families anyways! Oh, wait...

But I think that it woudln't harm Zelda as a franchise to attract older gamers. And TP was rated Teen, excluding kids (in theory), and it's one of the best selling Zelda games.

I have a hard time getting excited for next-generation graphics when developers are content to do absolutely nothing interesting with the raw power.

You wanna see better AI and physics? Can't argue with that.

Absolutely. I want a strategy game with realistic single-player challenge, not just manufacturing challenge by giving the AI advantages. And there's no reason why there can't be a quasi-realistic fully destructible Minecraft-like game with next-gen tech. From Dust demonstrated that such advanced physics are completely possible (and it wasn't even AAA). But I guess only the smaller developers think to use processing power for things other than pretty graphics.

Besides, what I really care about graphics-wise is art design (and animation because that is key to creating convincing characters). I would honestly rather play Kingdoms of Alamur than the game shown in the video, because at least it isn't afraid to use a full color pallate (which, incidentally, is the most realistic color pallate imaginable).

Man, I couldn't have put it better myself! Spot on!

Yes....as I said...Nintendo doesn't go beyond teen with first party. Their goal is to attract families all the way up to teens. I said Nintendo would never make an adult Zelda as long as Miyamoto is alive. They let third parties deal with games beyond the teen rating.

Hmm yeah, I guess... It's a shame though. Zelda and Metroid is well suited for a mature audience
