Forums - Nintendo - So is Skylanders a good game?

I just bought it for $60 (giants starter pack) for the WiiU for my children as an xmas present. Both boys really wanted it, so I figured it was a good combo gift. But is it any good? Also, is it required to keep buying the additional figurines? Thanks.

It's supposedly good for kids. I believe additional figurines aren't required, they just unlock extra gameplay.

For kid its ok, the game become reapetitive quickly.

to have access to everything, (element path) you,ll need to have one character of each element.

One of the big flaw is the constant ads in the game. to by other toy

to access everything, you'll need 1 charater of each element. the old toy still work if you have those.

this game was much more designed for the toy part. the giant are looking great, and the new skylander are cool,

Might as well drop the 1000 or so dollars to buy everything to make sure (I think I actually figured out the true cost of the game to be 200 dollars).

can someone explain how this game works. I have paid no attention to it but I keep hearing it makes heaps of money and I see toys on sale do the toys somehow interact with the game or something

Apparently the toys unlock characters and stages.  It's the ultimate form of "DLC"

They also work as memory cards. Basically when you level up a character or assign items to them, it saves the information onto the toy itself. One of the selling points is that you can level up your characters on the PS3 version then take to the toys round to your friends house, and even if he has the Xbox version, you can still use your toys to play multiplayer with them.
