Forums - Gaming - Fanboys, I just don't get it

Point being, I dont get why fanboys in gaming are looked down upon. Competition and rivalry is present in all things in the world and in our lives. So why does the parts that have to do with gaming have to be supressed?

Im gonna say it: gamers who don't like rivalries and competition are:

A. Just a gamer who plays games for his own pleasure. This doesn't apply to any of us because they would thereofore have no need to talk about their ideas on a forum.

B. Soccer mom. AKA "Lets all just be nice to eachother and HAVE FUN!"

Ya thats right, I just called people wimpy soccer moms. Pick a side (and follow the forum rules) or drive your kids to practise :)

You can be a fan of all of them.  The reason fanboys are annoying is because the arguments that they make are absurd and tainted with bias.  They try selling the product acting like they work for them.  It would be different if there attitudes were different but that isnt the case.  For example an xbox fan will bash anything sony just because it is sony.  Thats kind of dumb because no matter what you say uncharted is good. But an an xbox fanboy will bash it anyways and just make him or herself look like an idiot.

If I get in a debate, the majority of the time I will show facts because when someone does things like that it is annoying and I can easily prove them wrong.  Even then they argue back which is what makes them look childish.

Example:  Xbox fanboy "Metal Gear Solid 4 sucks, it's just a movie"
me: "5m+ sells, 94 metacritic, and multiple goty award, yepp you are right"

Sony fanboy "haha they should just call it gaylo, what a shit game"
Me"Billion dollar game, 50m+ franchise sold, revolutionized FPS genre on consoles.  yepp it clearly sucks"

These are pointless things to say just because you dont like a company.

Again, so?

You pick your battles. You ignore the rest. If some are really stupid you call them out so at least other forum posters see you got them, even if that person is too blind to see it.

I'm just saying.  If you are a fanboy, that is fine I can't do anything about that, but don't let it cloud your judgement either.  You say you dont understand the hat towards fanboys but me and many others do, they are annoying the majority of the time.  I'll talk about a game if it's bad, not because of what console it is on.  And I'll play a game when it is good regardless of what it is on.

Theres annoying people in all our lives. Complaining about gaming fanboys aint gonna make them go away. It aint gonna happen. They will stay just like real world annoying people are gonna stay. Its not about changing what is, its about acceptance and adapting to it.

Pick your battles, laugh at the really stupid comments. Ive been in this gig for a few years at the top of my faction.....you gotta ignore a ton of garbage even if you want to personally deal with it. Remember that in the end this is the internet, these viewpoints have 0 effect on your life when you turn off your computer, and just try to have fun with all of it.

I get your point and I dont need an explanation again.  You said you didn't understand why people get annoyed, well i answered it for you.  That is all I was doing and you will not change my mind.

So, to be a real gamer, I have to limit my gaming experiences to only what happens to be on my console and throw reason to the wind? People can disagree and still be reasonable.

I don't think anyone is requesting a forum in which everyone has the same opinion, and presents that opinion in a colorless, emotionless way.

Part of the fun of this site is debating whether A is better than B, or generation X is better than generation Y.

But this isn't some tournament or battlefield where each side does battle with the other. I mean if this site is just a game to be won, what is the point? Wouldn't it be better if we spent more time learning from each other, and sharing experiences and recommendations, and not sniping at each other?
