People on this site is trying to hype up this service so much but it still stands that the mass does not care about this service. Until they tie in online with PS+ people will not care about it. You were using you as an example of your reasons which is one person. But if that is the case then me and my friend both played the beta of sony all stars and we decided not to buy it because of that beta was not fun....

Question, how many PSN Plus commercials have you seen on TV?

This is something that Sony absolutely needs to advertise more, especially at Christmas.  PS+ is absolutely perfect for parents who want to keep their kids amused but don't want to spend huge amounts of dollars on new games every month.  Gamers know about PS+, but they really need to advertise it to parents, as well.  All the auto features would also make things easier for parents.

All they need to do actually is include a 1-month PS+ subscription code with all PS3 and/or Vita purchases.

Once parents or any consumer for that matter sees what it offers, it brings with it a good chance that person may pick up another 3-months or even a year to see if they like what it brings to the table over a longer period of time.

PS+ is amazing. When I first heard about it, I thought theres no way I'm paying for that. Then I tried it out when they has a discount on the memebership, and I haven't been disappointed yet.

The only thing is, with games you get free, you loose the ability to play them when your subscription ends. Thats not really a problem for me, since I fully intend to update my subscription this January. And after I finish certain games I won't be playing them again anyway. Even if I did, I still have the option of downloading them again free of charge.

I'm not sure if this service is generating good revenue for Sony though. Its so good for the consumer, I don't think it can be as profitable as something like Xbox Live?

Of course it isnt as profitable, but they want to profit. Sony isnt going to force you to buy the service, but they will keep adding to the service until it becomes something that is quite valuable and turns heads. Microsoft left Xbox Live as an option last gen and then forced it upoon people this gen who want to get online. Word of mouth and E3 is what is selling PSN Plus, but it needs more commercial value, like movies involved in it and more. Next year at E3 I am sure it will get more and there will be more updates for it next gen.

Question, how many PSN Plus commercials have you seen on TV?

How many XBL, MiiVerse, or Steam commercials do you see on TV? I think it is a great service for the people who like it though, but  a lot of people don't care at the moment.

I think PS+ and PSN will be tied together next gen honestly which will make it a bigger threat.  Do you agree with that?

When Xbox Live first got started, many. It was like the huge new service. Well...I thought it was a service.

Also, nom I dont think PS+ will be tied together. What is free is free and Plus helps them make a profit. I think they will increase the perks of Plus next gen and tweak the tier system fo Plus to make it feel larger than life. But of course like any tier service theres fewer people in the premium one than the free one. A breath of fresh air really.

If they don't tie it together then I see the majority of the people not caring still honestly.  Most people don't by XBL for there services either, they buy it to pay online.  The same will be for PS+.  If they tie it together though then Microsoft will need to make a move because then they are direct competition.  PS+ is not an online service so it not competion yet.

I hate to ask, but what services do people buy Xbox Live for?

It has a number of services but the main ones would be online, party chat, exclusive multiplayer titles, and XBLA.  That is why people buy it.

I mean as a selling point for a PS3/Vita, something that could tip the scales to a PS3/Vita purchase.  Not that I don't agree with you, that 1-month free code should be part of the advertisement.  Could you see that for a parent buying a system for a Christmas gift?  It's almost the same as buying a bunch of free games, they could keep the kid happy during winter break for a lot less cost.

Jay wood, PSN does the majority of the things on gold without all of the commercial fluff. It just keeps the things that matters, If thats a service then Sony has already been giving us a free service. IGN's streaming is really low in quality, I have no problem just going to their website and paying them by giving them the hits because its not really worth shelling out money for, imho. Truthfully Microsoft would've been onto something if they partnered with Gametrailers. Now that site has honest reviews and great high quality streaming panels and gaming conversations that I would probably fork out my dollar to see. IGN is biased and has been under fire as of late to honest.

PSN+ does not interest me in the slightest. I'd much rather just get random sales than pay for a subscription to "free" games that I'll lose if I end my subscription.

To me games are not a service. They are products for me to purchase and I don't want o purchase anything temporary. It's more like an extremely limited rental service.

The "free" games on PSN+ are more like rentals. But you don't get to pick them out. Sony picks some games and allows you to download and play them. Who say's I wanted those games? Maybe I want different games. Subscribers are paying for access to these "free" games regardless of if they get any games that interest them.

If PSN+ was more like Netflix, meaning that you pay a monthly fee to access 1 or 2 games a month but have access to the entire catalog of games, I could at least see the value. But as the service is right now, I just don't want to spend money on access to games Sony picks for me and sales on stuff I may not want.

While I do understand your gripes that Sony picks the stuff and that you don't actually own the games that you can access without further payment apart from your subscription fee, I do think that without these limitations the service would realistically cost 10 or more times the amount it does now, which makes it way less attractive to me, especially because Sony often picks really good games tbh.

But plus definitely is not an "extremely limited rental service", as you can keep all the stuff you got at once and for however long your subscription runs.. that's way different to renting something for a few days. And additionally there are sales on a lot of things which you can buy and keep "forever".

Excellent point. It is even better for someone who just picked up a ps3 and doesn't have a big backlog of games to play. I saw some people complaining on another forum that they are getting too much value with ps plus and they don't have time for it. *Sigh*

How much of that is available on rival platforms free of charge?

Roku, PS3, Wii, WiiU, 3DS, Vita, PC, BD Players, TVs, Smartphones, Tablets, etc... all grant Netflix subscribers access to their accounts at no additional cost. How it a selling point for Live? Same goes for Skype, online gaming, Last.FM, Pandora, Internet access, HULU, Amazon Prime, Friend lists, chatting, achievements/trophies, Youtube, etc...

I believe that LIVE is doing as well as it did because 360 launched first. Gamers bought it, paid for LIVE because it was required for online play (Not to mention they were well advanced compared to their rivals) and due to this their friends did the same. It allowed it to grow.

Now that may not be the case anymore going into a new generation. The competition is all caught up and also offer it free of charge. Now is the time for people to jump to new consoles, just as they did this generation.

I don't see how those are selling points this time around. I just don't.

Not trying to knock it, but this is just the reality. Even cross game chat is now available on Vita and will no doubt be on the next Playstation console. This will give Live little to no advantages over the competition, but rather only the large disadvantage of being the only payment required model in the entire industry.

I agree. Most if not all those features are available. Maybe people don't know abou them as much. Also no to gametrailers being on xbox live. It might ruin a pretty good website. Not taking at microsoft but more so on the fact that GT's loyalties might falter. Apprently even youtube app is not available to non live members. You can correct me if i am wrong vgcharters.

I'm one of those people that prefer their games in a physical form. I am glad that you see and find value in the service and in the end you will most likely gain more features down the road, but for me I always try to find the physical copy if I can (that's why I waited and got the Journey collector's edition.)

P.S. If you wait 2 months you get Bioshock 1 for free if you buy Bioshock Infinite for PS3. :)

I prefer lately to have them digital in order to avoid compatibility issues with future consoles.   Maybe the game wont be compatible day one, but in the end I will be able to play it.
