Forums - Sales - 360 & PS3 Sales run off - 2013 End UPDATE No.4 (post adjustments)

So what do we think?  Price cuts help? or new consoles kill off the 360 and PS3 even quicker due to the overall install base being so high?

Price cuts will not do much for these old consoles.  Both consoles are near saturation point, people who want to play Cod or FiFA already have at least one console.

If new gen prices start at $350, both PS3 and X360 are dead.   Launch prices above $450 will make older consoles last longer.

+-16m for PS360 this year, which is roughly the same amount ps2 shipped at the start of this gen. Both consoles will ship another 50m combined before they're phased out.

no chance whatsoever.

PS3 + 360 will not ship 50 million before phased out??? I'm expecting to Sony ship at least 30 million after PS4 release... near 50m after this quarter... so with 360 that could be 70-80 million shipped before the phase out... 50 million combined is question of when and not if.

21m combined 2012

Future:

17m combined 2013

12m combined 2014

7m combined 2015

3m combined 2016

Total: 39m with an extremely optimistic sales projection. How are you getting to 50m?

I never did math for 360 but the PS3 I have... I'm talking about shipped numbers (not VGC).

2012: 13 million
2013: 12 million
2014: 10 million
2015: 7 million
2016: 5 million
After: ~4 million

Total: 51 million

- Add anything you want to 360.
- PS3 already shipped 8 million this year (January to October) and needs just more 5 million (November and December) to reach 13 million in 2012... any shipped number near or over 7 million for PS3 this quarter put it near 13 million units shipped.
- 2013 will be flat or up for PS3 in Japan... little down in EU... and 25% down in US.

People forgot the PS3 shipped 14.1 in 2011... so 13 million this year is 15% down.

My fault, selective reading I guess. Completely missed it was shipped.

So these are PS3 projections?

2013: 12 million
2014: 10 million
2015: 7 million
2016: 5 million
After: ~4 million

Total: 38m shipped for PS3

I think this is a little high, but 50m seems much more likely now that I know it is shipped numbers.

360 will tail off quicker when new consoles launch, i expect ps3 to pass 360 in the end.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

360 sold better in the 8th year? huh look at that. Not bad for a console living off just NA and UK.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Well, since both MS and Sony shipped 10mn consoles each since last fall (according to their own statements) it would seem that the consoles are pretty much neck-to-neck, probably meaning they are falling at about the same rate as each other. I would predict shipments of no more than 6-7 mn during 2014 and 3-4 for 2015.

After all, this one was an awesome gen. One Console over 100 M and the other two over 80 M and still selling (low and slow, but selling). Both of them could end well over 90 M (or at least pretty close). Especially the PS3, which is the best selling console in some emerging That would mean almost 300 M sold consoles.

PS3 had the biggest turnaround ever which was awesome. I think in the big picture the console was a failure, but it definitely feels like a success (it could have been much worse).

360 surprised everyone and was a huge success, although it may have been much much better (so, it may feel like a small failure). The same happened with the Wii, it was such a success, that its final days felt like a failure.

Overall, I think the biggest success story was the one from the 360. This taking into account the fact that they were going against the (then all-mighty) Playstation. While Nintendo took a completely different route.
I feel that no one should feel bad, because the 3 consoles were successful in their own way. Sony and MS fans should be the happier, as they are witnessing the end of a very successful console generation and the start of one that looks is going to be a success for both.

first time posting. Hey guys do you have specifics for the PS3 hardware sales figure for year 2012 and 2013? preferably quarterly. I'm writing a research project and i hit a snag when i found that sony stopped showing specifics in their financial statements. the internet is only somewhat helpful thus far...
