The thing is, those people buying UC3 are not necessarily buying it because they want it. It comes with a ps3, so they might as well buy it. Many of those people will barely even play the game, and some may not even play it at all. And UC3 being part of a bundle also provides some advertising for the game. Gears 3, on the other hand, is not bundled with anything. So only people who want to actually buy gears 3, will actually buy gears 3. And for the most part, gears 3 is not being advertised anymore. 

Gears 3 was bundled, massively at launch. Those bundles moved hundreds of thousands of units.

Don't worry, Uncharted 3 isn't advertised anymore either.

You seem to be missing the point. Gears 3 was selling those bundles. People bought those bundles because it had Gears 3 and they wanted a gears 3 themed xbox.

UC3, on the other hand, is not selling the ps3 bundles. The people are not buying UC3, but a ps3. UC3 is just a bonus included in the box. They would have bought the ps3 regardless. However, because the ps3 is bundled with UC3, UC3 is still relevant. UC3 is being advertised by being part of the bundle. Gears 3, on the other hand, is not getting any sort of extra exposure to the market, other than it being on store shelves.

No. People that wanted an Xbox and also were interested in Gears bought that bungle, just like new PS3 owners would buy the PS3 with Uncharted 3 instead of the vanilla old Slim or the 500gig.

was uncharted 3 bundled this black friday. i only saw the ps3 bundle with uncharted 1 and 2

The $200 Black Friday bundle came with Uncharted 1+2 & InFamous 1+2 w/ Festival of Blood.

Not sure if the Uncharted 3 bundle was dropped to the same price, although it probably was I would guess. Someone else might know better than I.

Uncharted 3 has been bundled massively since launch and has just had a massive boost due to the black Friday deals AND it's going to have its second Xmas holidays bundle. Uncharted doesn't have a lot of fans and it isn't very popular, it only appears so because of the sheer amount that it is bundled. If the Uncharted games weren't bundled from heaven to hell then the franchise wouldn't be bigger than any of Sony's other middling franchises like Killzone, Resistance, Infamous etc.

Gears of War 3 is a much more popular and profitable game, it wasn't bundled at all outside of the limited edition console which people bought specifically for Gears of War 3 and according to what EPIC have said Gears of War 3 is being massively under-tracked. Also don't forget Gears of War 3 is available digitally.

Celebrate the most bundled game of the HD console generation all you want Sony fans, Sony themselves know that without mass bundling Uncharted would be nothing.

All Sony exclusvies have LEGS, bundles or no bundles. A perfect example is the God of War series.

So stop your jealousy. You don't hear me complaining about how Kinect Adventures sells do you?

Bundling Uncharted 3 with every $270 PS3 is the smartest thing Sony ever did. One day the Uncharted franchise will rival the likes of Gran Turismo and Halo. One Day.

That is a special edition console, not just a normal console. Uncharted 3 being bundled also increased the entry price ($20). I posted that image only because I hate hit and run posts like that and especially those that come in to say a short comment and end it with "/thread".


Wait, where is it $20 more expensive? On Amazon the Slims (not Super Slim) are the same price (PS3 320GB is $299 while the Uncharted bundle is $299). There's the 250GB GOTY bundle Super Slim that's $270 but I don't see a standard 250GB Super Slim priced anywhere (I imagine it's $250 from what you said).

Uncharted franchise was reported at 17.3M as of April 12th, 2012, with Uncharted 3 shipping 3.8M at launch. VGC now has it at 15.82M 6-1/2 months later. It is obvious that since April they shipped more and even more so since Uncharted 3 is bundled now for the holidays.

3M sold in first week for Gears and 3.8M shipped at launch is all we have for either. Only going by total shipments for each franchise can we even begin to determine if either is undertracked and the argument looks to be way in Uncharted's favor. It is even arguable now that the Uncharted franchise has now outshipped and/or even outsold the Gears franchise.

Edit - Reading the linked Joystiq article it mentions that Gears 1 + 2 are said to have shipped over 12M combined, leaving 6-7M shipped for Gears 3. I would say it is probably ~6.3-6.5M or so, so our numbers while possibly undertracked, are probably not by much. Maybe a couple hundred thousand if we aren't to believe 1M copies on shelves WW.

That of course would lend even more argument in favor of Uncharted though.


The Gears numbers that Epic said were sell through to consumer not shipped.  It was confirmed somewhere Ill dig it up.

Found it. Gears franchise has already sold through over 19 million to consumers not shipped. The franchise is undertracked here by almost 1 miliion units.
