Forums - Gaming - How powerfull is the Wii U? Not that it matters.

Compared to the PS360, how powerful do you consider the Wii U?

Crazy powerfull, it will ... 23 4.91%

Super powerful, like 4 to 6 times PS360. 23 4.91%

Far more powerful, about 2 to 4 times PS360. 53 11.32%

Pretty powerful, around 2 times PS360. 113 24.15%

Marginally more powerful,... 123 26.28%

About the same as the PS360. 38 8.12%

A little less powerful, b... 40 8.55%

Far less powerfull than P... 13 2.78%

I will not dignify this q... 28 5.98%

I confused 13 2.78%

Total:467

Is powerfull enough

I believe it is about 2 GameCubes and 2 Wiis duct taped together.

The CPU is three downclocked Wii's.

huh?

It's about 2X-4X when it comes down to it on the overall graphical level assuming there is little bottleneck on the system compared to the PS360's various bottlenecks, but TBH I don't think power is the issue here, it's always about the proper support.

Aren't most engines now scalable? If they can scale it down to a phone, they can put it on the Wii U. For that reason alone support has to be better then the Wii.

Thats a very good point. The big 3rd party engines like Unreal and Cryengine have such great scalability that even if the Wii U turns out to be the least powerfull of the big three next gen we shouldn't see the same lack of support that the Wii had. If it's as easy as hitting a "Wii U" button for devs to down grade their games slightly compared to the NextBox and PS4 the game should play just as well and look only a little different.

hint.  it's not that easy.

at least it's easier than the Wii lol....

It does not matter. Wii U should be compared to PS4/720, as some people claim that Wii U is a next gen console.

3x more powerful thanks to the GPU. The only thing that will possibly hinder it long term (at least third party support) is the CPU.

yeah.... you are still not making sense, and I don't get the joke

I think the CPU is (probably) roughly as powerful as the XBox 360's CPU, with the GPU being roughly 3 times as powerful as the XBox 360's GPU, the bus bandwith between main memory and the CPU/GPU is about the same as the XBox 360, and the memory bandwidth between the edram and the CPU/GPU is several times the speed of the bandwidth between the XBox 360's main memory and its CPU/GPU.

I suspect that, at the moment, most games are treating the architecture in a similar fashion to the XBox 360 and they're only using (about) 16MB of the eDRAM for screen buffers and the textures are being streamed from main memory; and the main memory bus is acting like a bottleneck and the GPU is performing well below its potential. I suspect that most of the textures drawn to screen could be stored (compressed) in 8MB to 16MB of eDRAM (roughly 16 to 48 texels per pixel) and cut the data that is being passed across the bus to 1/4 to 1/2 of its current level, and the system would see a 50% to 100% performance improvement.

On top of that, I suspect that 2nd generation Wii U games will probably try to offload the physics engine to the GPU resulting in a dramatic drop in the load on the CPU with a modest increase in the load on the GPU. In theory, the Wii U's GPU could probably maintain an physics simulation that would take the entire XBox 360 CPU using (around) 10% to 20% of its processing power.

The Wii U's CPU is three Wii's CPU overclocked taped together... that's the joke.

Prolly just not funny to me because a Wii U CPU can't even beat a Wii even downclocked by design to GC levels so you made no sense
