Forums - Sales Discussion - PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is a MAJOR flop - we need to talk about it

You sir are a ruffian and a scoundrel.

Smash bros was also the only one of its class (sort of). I also fail to see how a 2012 game modeled similarly to a 1999 game (I'm basing the "ripoff" status from the original Super Smash bros) is a rip off. Sony could have rip them off a long as time ago, back when they had Crash and Spyro and when characters like Cloud, Sephiroth, and Leon would have made sense to be included in the game since PS1 became Final fantasy's flag ship console.

I would keep going but dishing out serves to the like of you is hardly worth anybody's time.

The point is they didn't have to do it. But they still did. Would it have killed them to not rip something off for a change? The developers of this game are absolutely shameless. They say they are 'flattered' by being compared to smash bros but they know darn well why they are being compared to smash bros. It is like cheating on a test. They saw nintendo get an easy 'A' grade and decided they would try it themselves. Well too bad sony. Cheaters never prosper.

@ BasilZero I love ico. It is the best game sony have ever made in my view. My view though. Ironically it is also their most original. It proves that when they are being original they can make some darn good games.

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

Is there any surprise? People have already played this game before, back when it was called Super Smash Brothers and had Nintendo characters in it :P

The novelty is gone.

Seeing BO2 on PS3, PS3 gamers are there. They just like to buy multiplats and dont see PS3 exclusives worth their time, unless its a big name one.

The reality completely flies in the face of the internet consensus that Sony is loved for their variety.

Isn't that the exact same thing that goes for 360? It just so happened that Sony didn't release any big name exclusives this year, while MS only had Halo.

360 had other games as well. But yes they sell far less then the big name games like Halo. But MS learned their lesson from releasing random exclusives.

If its not a big name exclusive.....there really is no point making it retail anymore. Make it a PSN game or something.

If only Sony created another GT team to release one GT per year. PS3 would blow up in Europe

We don't want GT doing that because then you get Call of Duty, and we what means gameplay wise(not sales).

#facepalm.

Comparing it to cheating to a test from somebody else means that you are writing down the exact same procedure and answers as the person you are cheating from. If you played the game, you would see there are many differences as well as they are many similarities. The way to score points, the interchanging/interactive stages, different penalties, items, etc.

SuperBot has admitted that they were inspired by Super Smash. If anything, Nintendo should feel flattered that their game is so good, that others want to get in on that very unused genre (which I will refer to as fighting arena. Besides, making this game doesn't hurt nintendo or it's players. The game was made because of the demand for it. Sony and Playstation has always had plenty of mascots compared to the Xbox, so it was only obvious that once melee came out, Playstation also wanted a similar game. And yes, I am aware that this demand i mentioned isn't being showed in the first week sales but we'll see in the upcoming weeks.

Just play the game. NOT THE DEMO. The finished, flesh-out game. Rent it for a week, play some arcade, local and online multiplayer. Just give it a try, it is inspired by Smash bros, we all know this but it has a life of its own.

Tekken Advance (GBA)

Tekken Dark Resurrection (PSP)

Also.. Tekken is hardly exclusive..  They games may be exclusive in name only.  They reuse the same characters and materials from other tekken games. Nintendo needs completely unique exclusives a tekken on Nintendo usually feels like a lazy port.

Why do you ignore my responses? Tekken 1-4 were exclusive to Playstation and sold extremely well. Yet you said "Yeah exclusive fighters only work on Nintendo.."

I'll respond to it instead of him then......That was for the original PS.  Things has changed a lot since then.  I doubt Killer Instict would sell as well as the originals either. Is people forgetting why super Smash Bros does so well?

It doesn't matter which console it was for if it directly disproves his theory of exclusive fighters only selling well on Nintendo.

I think he was talking about current consoles.  regardless he is wrong.  If tekken, dead or alive, Soul Calibur, Street Fighter or mortal kombat was exclusive to either 360 or Ps3 Im sure any five of them could sell multimillions. Dead or Alive 4 came out early on and sold 1.01m Apparently ioi tooke out european numbers for whatever reason.  Im sure Killer Instict will do fine on a MSFT console too, but I dont think its as big as the fighters I mentioned above because it's been so long since the last Killer Instict's last game.  I just dont think the name will be big anymore, but i could be wrong.   Regardless I feel he was wrong even if it's this gen.

Hmmmmmmm... So Sony released a derivative fighting game with a poor roster and a lack of polish and its sales are poor. Whodathunk.

The game might reach 1.5 M. Maybe 2M if you want to count bundles. Ok for the average game. For a game that features all of Sony's biggest franchises, and was their big release for the holiday... kind of sad.

Edit:  What's with this new IP rationalization?  Calling this a new IP is maybe technically correct, but willfully dishonest.  When a game launches with 20 supposedly well known characters that should negate a huge portion of the trepidation most new IPs face.  This isn't some risky obscure new title...

Bold: That's the thing...it doesn't. Sony's biggest franchise (by far) has no characters. They're also missing some of their greats like Cloud, Crash and Spyro.

OT: I'm pretty sure now that there's an incredible possibility of the numbers being way off after the huge undertracking for BF week.

Every game and console are likely to be undertracked during the holidays so a lot of changes will be made in january/febuary.  Holidays are hectic so it's understandable but how much was the ps3 off?  This may be undertracked by 20k-40k or something (just a guess) but I dont think it will be anything significant.

PS3 was off ~145k in USA alone. Considering that they offered PSASBR bundles, I wouldn't be surprised to see this one being undertracked. It's at 176k WW right now on the chartz.

Yeah I still don't see a significant change and we don't know if software is undertracked or not.  Still 200k looks much better than 170k.

Is this what you have been reduced to? Undertrackzzz?

This whole thread is just pure damage control and excuses that justify the poor sales .

For once I wish that the fans would just own up and say: "Ya, its disapointing", rather then blaming the timing, lack of real buzz, false internet buzz, roster, justifying that it made a profit with a low budget, etc.

Perhaps you didn't read the title. It says "talk about it." What do you expect. The thread's intended purpose was for people to discuss 1.) if the game has/will flopped, and 2.) why the game has flipped if it did. I think you entered this thread already convinced that Sony fans were up to no good, which is strange to be honest.

Well you are doing a big part of said justifying yourself.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

It's way too soon, this may very well backfire. The holiday season is right around the corner and the game is being heavily marketed for both Vita and PS3. I want the game to do well, and if it doesn't better for you, but this thread is premature.
