It's part of Nintendo's philosophy that the Wii U is for everyone, including "you." That's what it's supposed to mean (so it actually does have a bit more relevance than the "i" in apple products).

The idea is that it's supposed to be how "you" play. On-screen, off-screen, large local multiplayer possibilities, online multiplayer, etc.

I thought the "U" was the same as the "Wii" meaning it's translated the same way regardless of the language. So I thought, maybe the U was just nonsensical jibber jabber to cross language barriers and get consumers to buy into their product. I could be overthinking things though.
