Wow ... checked local gamestop and EB games ... no 360s in stock within 200 miles of me (ABQ). I know BB was sold out of them ... but I did see 50 40gb PS3s.

The Elites have sold out, but the Arcaes are plentiful, and most stores have the Pros. But you will find some that are soldout.
arcades are very easy to find... elites and pros are hit or miss.

add me, the more the merrier.
I keep seeing this and the only logical reason I can think of for this shortage is an improved model is on its way.
Why else would MS be undercutting supply so badly? Last year, they stuffed the channel so you know that production is capable of meeting demand easily.

I was at a local BB yesterday and they had 1 Arcade in stock. I was wondering if perhaps MS used the holiday season to clear inventory in preparation for new SKUs, but this isn't likely the case if others are seeing the stock replenished at their local stores (unless part of that 1.7 m in the channel are starting to make it to the stores).
Anyone have an inside source who can either confirm or deny that MS is starving the channel at the front end?
EDIT: Crap! Rocketpig beat me to it by like 60 seconds!

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Good point. You're probably right. MS will definately want to get a newer, better quality and cheaper to produce model out in time for a GTA4/price drop hit on PS3 - if possible.
Rocketpig -
My assumption would be that with the huge backlog of units lying around from last year, distributors/retailers were somewhat worried about X360 sales this year vs. a fully supplied Wii, and a reduced price PS3.
However, in the end, the Wii wasn't fully supplied, and PS3 did....Mediocre.
Hopefully this translates to strong hardware shipments this next quarter, and allows MS to move a bit of units. I havent seen many X360s where I live.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
The ps3 did medicore?
Werent you expecting the 360 to outsell it 2 to 1 in the holiday season?

That is also a real possibility. A new model might be unlikely because the only major change I can think of, the 65nm GPU, is still several months off according to MS (mid-2008).
