Forums - Microsoft - From Blades to Metro - The Evolution of Xbox Live and Why i Loved Blades.

Blades were the Faster and the best for me... Everything was around gaming, not much media hub, it was easy and simples...

After that Microsoft really pushed media on 360, sure they made bilions and have a winner right there but as a Gamer i loved the Blades.

I love to Use Youtube, IE and others on the 360 and probably that wouldnt be possible if they kept the Blades, yet i would rather not have that and go back to Blades.

Whats your favorite and why ?

I actually like this 'Metro' style more; I remember the blades being pretty laggy for some reason and didn't seem to be as crisp.

The BuShA owns all!

Personally, I liked the NXE best, but that was because it was three dimensional, but the integration between it and Kinect did not work.

Metro is technically Blades on steroids. People just don't quite realize it.

Consider each Blade to be a view. The blades interface had 5 (your screen shot is not the last version of the Blades). With Metro there are now 8 (down from 9). Navigate by view, rather than by tile, and you've got essentially the same thing as the Blades but with more 3 more views, and roughly the same number of options depending on which Blade you were working with.

In the beginning, with little content, the Blade interface was ok. Navigating to the different views was easy, but once you dug deeper everything broke down. That was the problem. On the surface, yeah the Blade interface sort of worked, but go one level deeper and the UI paradigm shifted. Go another level down, and once again another paradigm shift. NXE worked hard to create a consistent interface between the top and lower levels, but at times it too broke down. Not to mention stuff got easily buried and or hidden.

I think the latest Metro update does a good job of providing a consistent interface between the top and lower levels. Usability if you actually use voice commands is significantly improved as well. Last I knew, you couldn't use voice commands with the Blades interface to have it take you to what you want.

The Blades really aren't visually pleasing so I take the Metro over it.

Just as a cheat sheet:

Blades 1 - No ads, no Marketplace blade.
Blades 2 - Ads. Changes to the Games blade.
Blades 3 - Marketplace added. Content completely reorganized.
NXE 1 - Complete re-org of the UI into horizontal Channel of single tiles. 3 Dimensional "curve" presentation.
NXE 2 - Flattened UI with less content on the screen. Initial Kinect integration
Metro 1 - Channels with Tiles in a single view and full Kinect integration.
Metro 2 - Improved UI. IE Browser integration.

While I like the new version, I cannot say I like it more than the blades. I don't like the ads on there at all -- there are just too many. Haven't renewed my Gold in almost a year now. I feel like such a bad gamer.... I don't play games online anymore :(

Everyone needs to play Lost Odyssey! Any opposition to this and I will have to just say, "If it's a fight you want, you got it!"

Metro..... By miles..

I used to love the blades above all, but Metro has grown on me, I prefer it now.

I prefer the one on the top right, It shows your avatar (the thing that you spend money on for no reason) , and it looks cool. the metro, looks very generic and is filled with ads on every sub menu , at least the NXE had the ads in one place.

Yeah Metro is cool but Blades for me.
