I wish they could take note from the previous installments!! Change the god damn art style next time!!

I think the problem is with the production values and content rahter than the artstyle itself.

Yeah that too. Give it the AAA-treatment, new visuals and new audio. Bingo!!

That´s reserved for 3D Mario.

I don´t think they enjoy making these 2D Mario games, they only make them because NSMB (DS--2006) and NSMB Wii reminded them of how much it sells.

Sadly, this could very well be true :p

Like KungKras said, the problem is production values and content...you can tell they don´t take that seriously when it comes to 2D Mario, be glad it seems they actually put a bit more effort than usual for NSMBU.

If they keep walking down that road, I wonder if it´ll impact the 'mighty killer app' status 2D Mario has.

They also have really douchy double standards with the games. They say they want to make new experiences, and give us Galaxy 2, while the ole 2D Mario gets "I've made that game, I don't want to make it again". If they justify Galaxy 2 as a new experience due to the new content and ideas, they should be able to make new 2D Mario games with the same philosophy.

Yeah, they should, but this is one of the things I agree 100% with Malstrom..they just don´t want to, they seem to feel forced due to sales power, if you feel forced, how can it be a "labor of love"?

Oh it will! imo it has already started to show, but it seems like NSMBU is a step up...

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Currently at Soda Jungle with all the star coins collected and 3 of 4 secret exits found (through self discovery), I have to say that even though the game is gorgeous, controls are top notch and being able to play the game lying down on my bed is an awesome experience, I would put the game last in terms of launch Mario titles that I have played in the last 25 years.  Super Mario World being first, followed by Super Mario Bros for the NES (Did not have a N64).  I don’t want to say that the previous Super Mario titles (both 2D and 3D, console and handheld) that have been released in the past 6 years are diluting the game experience but well I guess I am saying that.

How are you enjoying the game so far and how does it rank for Mario Launch games you have played?

So far quite enjoyable, this looks to also be the first console 2D Mario to feature DLC, since I have not beat the game yet it is hard to rank, but at the moment I ranked Super Mario World as #1 , there is room however for this new version to move up, especially as I go deeper into the game.

If that is the case, they should just give the series to devs who are passionate about it. There's no rule that says that the original creators are the best at making their series. What seems to matter though, is respect for the source material, fans and developer talent. Just look at 343 and Halo 4.

I LOVE ICELAND!

I agree. It seems Ubisoft is more passionate about Rayman than Nintendo is about 2D Mario, which, to me, is sad, since in my opinion 2D Mario >>> Rayman

.. and consider 2D Mario is what made Nintendo what they are...they aren´t called 'the house that Mario built' for nothing.

NSMBU is undoubtedly the best NSMB game, as others have stated, and it's also the best SMB game. But I don't think it beats SMW, and it definitely doesn't beat SM64.
