5 Things You Shouldn't Buy on Black Friday - The Nintendo Wii

One of the most eye-catching deals we saw in the Black Friday circulars was the Nintendo Wii console offered in Walmart's ad for just $89. That's a great price for a best-selling, critically acclaimed and very fun video game console.

But you should probably skip it anyway.

See, the Wii is already obsolete. It had a good six-year run and was the most popular system of its generation, but on Sunday, Nintendo released its successor, the Wii U, officially making the Wii a last-generation system. The Wii U will be the hot gift this season, though we fear a lot of parents will become confused and buy the similarly named Wii. If you do so, you will have a very disappointed child on your hands.

Aside from the Wii, though, it's not a bad idea to check out the video game department on Black Friday. Decide's data shows that video games and consoles were a good buy last year, and this year promises to be the same, with discounts and special package deals on consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 appearing in circulars.

Personally, I love my Wii. Does it really has to be the "latest-and-greatest?" Comments?

hmmm

Virtual Console is worth that alone, almost all past Nintendo gens/games on one console.

Dumb article. Wii is still a great value, since the U is 300+ $. Those who don't own one or want a second one shouldn't miss rebates at all.

The only part of that article I agree with is "don't confuse the Wii with the WiiU". Yes, it happens.

Course not, it's old and washed up hardware. Only the WiiU can even compete with the PS3 and X360, and yet we don't know if 3rd party devs will support it. So this is a big guess still. And god knows when the next gen for Sony and MS starts. Can smell disaster for the WiiU, so of course the Wii shouldn't be bought by any sane person. Just a fad console selling shovelware and call them games..

I just think their model on the Wii was extremely poor. And with the WiiU tech, seems far to unimpressive. I don't hate Nintendo at all, but they deserve to fail this generation, so they can prioritize themselves as I think it's needed. They need to get in touch with gamers. They are always on a different planet doing their own thing, and make us gamers happy very little of the time. Sony is the only one not faulting big time on this. Hence why Sony exclusives are so good compared to the competition, because they make it a priority. MS wants to be the center of your living room. Gaming is almost 2nd hand.

It's sad what's going on in the gamingsphere right now.

That's only one thing. I'm assuming things 2 through 5 are the Playstation Vita.

The kind of person who's looking for a Wii right now is a different type of person that the one looking for the Wii U. For many people getting a Wii for 89 bucks with 7-10 games players choice/budget games might be a better idea than going for the Wii U.

Example of PS3 games for kids:

It's not a bad idea to get one, I mean, that's very cheap!

On the contrary ( if you have the money) Wii U plays Wii games... And Wii U games, of course.

One of the other items you aren't supposed to buy is toys.  So that only includes Nintendo systems.
