Were console gamers ever under the impression that graphics on consoles pawned PC graphics?

Personally i give shit about graphics like a lot do, it's a small part of playing a game. If i want life-like graphics, ill open my curtains.

All the best RPG's in history are on the PC, Warcraft I, II and III, Civilization series, Starcraft, X-com series, everything ever published by Lucasarts before 2000, King's Bounty games, Heroes of Might & Magic series, Mount & Blade, Team Fortress 1 and 2, Thief 1 and 2, Quake games, Diablo series, all the MMO's that matter, Company of Heroes, System Shock 1 and 2, Age of Empires, Total War series, Call of Duty 1 and 2 (by far the best ones). And this is just scratching the surface, I could write a post too long for the site's bandwidth to load with fantastic PC exclusives.

The truth is, for backlog and library, not all consoles in the world come close to the PC. For strategy and RPG's it is extremely superior and it gets the technically best versions of most multiplats, better visuals, sound, controls and heaps of customization and mods as well as more content, cheaper content and games, better support and even better and more gameplay (twice as many fighting in Battlefield 3 maps is a perfect example).

Alphacris; As a gaming platform, the PC reigns supreme for me and a lot of others. I use my PS3 for Gran Turismo, fighting games and things like Uncharted and to watch movies on sometimes. The PC fulfills all my needs and then some.

The PC itself cost me about 9500NOK, the PS3 was 7000NOK when it launched here, those 2500NOK extra will be saved on cheaper games, purchasing extra controllers, various cables and other stuff within a couple of years. PC gaming is not expensive, its not difficult and nothing comes close to the library.
I waited over four years before upgrading to a better maching, by that time, its almost time to buy a new console and the TV is aging as well (if you have a Plasma or LCD, which everyone does), plus more expensive games, all for a technically inferior experience.

I'm fine with my choices, to be honest, and it has nothing to do with "lol you're jealous/angry at consoles for getting great games and you're poor etc", its as simple as this; console gaming bores me ever since the 7th generation started. I have enough cash to spend on games and we own both a PS3 and a 360 but I have no interest in them any longer.

By the way, expecting a 20 year lifespan or even the possibility of something like that occurring is slightly insane in my opinion. The market and development is moving faster and faster, the 8th generation will likely be shorter than the 7th.

Anyway, anyone who says that PC gamers are missing out and that consoles are getting all the great exclusives haven't spent nearly enough time on a PC to properly make up their minds.

For the average person their PC is a laptop. So when comparing consoles to PC's what are you comparing exactly? If you want to play games on a laptop it isn't exactly the best configuration and you'd need to pay several hundred dollars to get a model which has a dedicated graphics card and to get a decent one you need to know what you're doing and put in some research whereas if you want to buy a console you know exactly what it is and what it can do, very simple.

Granted I have a gaming PC which is probably more powerful than all the consoles ever released put together. An HD 7970 can do that and I have a pair of them. The argument is nuanced and you can't really call it either way really as you cannot really define the word 'PC' as a term as it means anything from your old Athlon which can still plug away on websites like this one to beastly workstations with multiple multi core CPUs and multiple GPUs.

Wrong, and you dont understand the concept of consoles. Fact is, a 7 year old $500 computer will never be able to produce the graphics of Halo 4. Consoles > PC.

I dont know if you just didnt read that thread but I believe i explained multiple times that it was motion capture.  That was the tech they are using in that game.  I didnt get upset until the constant comments of jelly?  The thing is I'm buying that game so there would be no reason to be jellous, and even if I didnt I have a PC that produces better graphics than that.  I get what you are saying in a way that you think Im bashing the game but that was not the case.  I pointed out that it is not gameplay.  Yes it is in game, but when you have a game that is scripted in closed areas with motion capture you can put that much detail in it.  It is much like L.A. Noire in that sense.  I didnt post anything about PC until the whole jelly stuff.  I personally play consoles more than PC but it is very tiring hearing these kind of comments constantly.  Beyond, Last of Us, Uncharted, Halo, Forza are all great looking games but they all have to do little tricks to make them look better, it is great developers who are making them look good, it is not the X360/PS3.  It is impressive that developers are able to make games look that good on that old of hardware which is why I'm impressed.  We are at a point now where games arent going to be technicly better in graphics on consoles.  They will have different artistic styles and different techniques.  It is a matter of opinion on what you think looks best which is why it gets old with these type of debates.  As I said though I understand why you think I was bashing but I wasn't, I was pointing out the technology that it is using.  Could I have went about it in a better way?  Yes, but what is done is done, now relax about it

That's how I agree with OP. Otherwise I agree that people should talk about graphics all they want, without assuming superiority in any way, since they get clobbered by the big pink giant in the room (PC).
