Edit: Damn it people! You gotta state WHY you think a certain console is the greatest.

We're on the brink of a new video game generation, mere hours away!

And this got me thinking; which console is the greatest ever? I'm not talking sold units, because we all know that is PS2. I'm talking about which console has meant the most. Of all time. Which console is the console we gamers can not disregard it's importance?

Is it the PS1 for breaking the winning streak of Nintendo, or is it the Wii for getting casuals to play video games? Or is it perhaps the Xbox360 for ushering the era of gorgeous HD graphics? Or perhaps the Genesis for doing what Nintendon't? Or is it the N64 for showing us how 3D games are meant to be played? Or perhaps the very first video game console ever: the Magnavox Odyssey.

To me, it's hands down the NES. It revived the video game industry single handedly and revolutionized the business with it's 3rd party support. And then we got the games. Let's not go there; we'll end up having such a long discussion of me talking about all the great games we got and the franchises created then.

So go a head and name YOUR greatest console ever. And no damn flaiming or trolling. I wanna see logical reasoning or else I'm gonna call you out for what you are right here in the OP: FAN BOY!!! If you can discuss without reason or logic just leave this thread be.

I vote for a tie between the PS3 Vita combo pack and the Wii U.

This is ridicilous, where's ps3? You have all current gen consoles but no ps3? what?

The PS2. I could go into a great amount of detail, I could write you a fucking book on why! But I'm not going to. I'm just gonna say: Everyone owned one, and everyone loved it.

So you included the Magnavox Odyssey but not more popular ones ?

Personally, I didn't like the NES era all that much. It was wall-to-wall platforming, mostly. Yeah, there were some awesome games, but most of them were pretty easy or used cheap tricks to achieve difficulty. Gaming became focused on memorizing patterns. I think I could beat every game I owned with my hands behind my back. I mean that literally, that's how I used to play. I actually liked the Atari style better, where a lot of games focused on reflexes and increasing levels of speed. That's why I loved games like Defenders, Yars Revenge, or Super Breakout. The NES, in all honesty, burnt me out on the platforming genre.

I voted for the PS2 because of variety. That's what I like in gaming. I like all different kinds of games spread out over all different kinds of genres, which is what the PS2 brought in spades. Great RPGs, great Action games, and the crowning jewel for me, Gran Turismo 3.

Read all of the OP (well mostly the last line). There weren't not enough options, and HD had already been done so I opted to have Xbox360 in there instead. But please go a head and tell me why PS3 is the greatest =)

The PS2 is the bar, the SNES comes after that and then the PSX even though it outsold the SNES.
