1. The initial price tag is a tad too high. $300 is great by new-console standards — remember the PlayStation 3 at six big ones? — but general consumers don’t see “Wii” and think “high-end electronics.”

Agree with this one, and this might be the reason it could fail. Remember how 3DS was doing at 250? We might see panic pricecut next year if sales don't pick up.

Yeah because high end electronics in gaming devices ensures success?

$300 isnt too high... not even close.

Yeah sometimes it ensures success, but thats not the point. The name has Wii in it, its not synonym for expensiveness. Many casuals are probably expecting a cheaper pricetag since they bought the og Wii a lot cheaper. This is Nintendo's most expensive console.

It has never ensured success in gaming.  Especially recently... http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=141085&page=1#

....and once again... $300 isnt expensive.  Why are you saying it is?

It is Nintendo most expensive console because it is their latest console.  WTF are you talking about?    Ever heard of inflation?  There is virtually nothing in it.

Stick to your reviews, they make more sense.

PS2 launch price was €499, it went on to sell the most consoles ever. And don't bring up NA launch price because it will only validate what I'm saying. $249 launch price for PS2 made it succesful while its $599 successor struggled, in Europe PS3 did amazing despite its pricetag, that is because the PS2 launch price was also very high. If Nintendo struggles with WiiU sales and encounters a 3DS situation, that will only prove the userbase was expecting a cheaper console.

Very mature of you to resort to the review argument again.

That post is just a rambling mess... you seem to contradict and then agree with yourself in the same post.

Stick to your reviews... they make more sense.

You can't say anything anymore. Because despite knowing ps2s high Euro launch price and its success, you still cling to a flawed logic as "high end gaming devices don't ensure success".

Dude, you are seriously making no sense.

About the button/stick reversal. Are you saying that hardcore gamers won't be able to adapt to that?? Really?

We adapted to the 3d stick on the N-64, which IMO was a much bigger change than this. We also adapted to dual analogs easily. Wiimote in shooters, no problem.

And here we have buttons that are under the stick instead of over it, what a disaster....

What?   Did you just say that the PS2 was the highest priced and had strongest tech of last gen?

Stick to your reviews, they make more sense.

PS2 wasn't the strongest console when it launched? Xbox was available in 2000? Use common sense.

Never noticed that they reversed the X-Y and A-B buttons compared to 360. That should be a bit confusing for those that are used to that gamepad.

Every Nintendo controller has had B-A (left-to-right)

The NES, SNES, GB, N64, GBA, Gamecube, DS, WiiMote, Classic, Classic Pro on Wii, 3DS, Classic on Wii, and now the Wii U Gamepad and Pro Controller

Sony uses the Square, Triangle, Circle, X thing on the PS-One, PS2, PSP, PS3, PSV, PS-Move,  PS-Navigation which I like more than XYAB (Nintendo) or XYBA (Microsoft) because it is shapes are more universal language than alphabets and the same shapes are also color-coded.

ONLY the XBox and X360 use A-B (left-to-right)... thats a tiny fraction of the total controllers in used in the market place in the history of gaming... and people somehow manage to adjust to the odd XBox controller to the tune of ~100 million out of the 1 billion or so controllers out that have a different button layout.

(So less than 10%)

Anyway, please... give yourselves as gamers a lot more credit than not being able to adjust to different controller layouts.

Also, I think thumb-sticks up is a good change since its been a long time that thumbstick + triggers are more widely used in games than D-Pad and Buttons and symetrical controller design like the Sony controllers is also a good choice.

As long as Wii U has a great launch and huge holiday numbers, I am happy. :)

So the WiiU is the strongest console when it launches then?  You are tying yourself up in knots.

lol

Stick to your reviews, they make more sense.

You seem to be confused. I never said PS2 was the strongest of its gen, you just made it up. PS2 was a highend console when it came out. Obviously.

Use common sense.

@Kowenicki how is he tying his self up in knots? The Wii U WILL be the strongest console on the market when it launches

Unless you are including the pc

Edit: double post

So right off the bat he says $300 is too pricey for the Wii U these days, but it was perfectly fine when the PS1 launched at that price tag 17 years ago when no console released for more than $199 at that point was ever successful?

And 2D Mario at launch isn't the "killer app" they need?

Yeah, this guy hasn't a clue as to what he's talking about. Just trolling for hits.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Oh, now I understand why 360 gamers don't like the PS3. They are getting confused by the face buttons.

Well, Cliffy B from Epic did say, "the PlayStation branding when they named the buttons square, triangle, it's like putting Kanji on the f--ing thing."  So, to him, shapes are a foreign language.  He probably won't even be able to touch the Wii U without raging.
