Forums - General - Has anyone seen Cloverfield? If so, what did you think of it?

I enjoyed it but did feel slightly nauseous towards the end. Don't today's high end cameras have image stabilization?!? ;)

It's a character driven drama first and monster movie second. The plot gets a bit unbelievable towards the middle, but it's a fun ride if you turn your brain off and just sit back and enjoy it. And it's definitely not one of your typical Hollywood flicks either. But if you didn't see the ending coming, you must've missed the first minute.

There is some talk of a sequel which isn't too surprising since the movie has already made a profit after its opening weekend (no doubt helped by the writer's strike and JJ's high profile with the show Lost and upcoming Star Trek 'Reboot'). I won't go into details here, but you can find information on a sequel on the web if you look.

The decision to see this movie is dependant on only 1 thing, which is a spoiler:

Is this monster Cthulu?

Wii: 14 million by January  I sold myself short

360: 13 million by January I sold microsoft short, but not as bad as Nintendo.

PS3: 6 million by January. If it approaches 8 mil i'll eat crow  Mnn Crow is yummy.

With these results, I've determined that I suck at long term predictions, and will not long term predict anything ever again. Thus spaketh Crono.

JJ Abrams said it is definitely NOT Cthulu.

@phalanax - I went into this movie PUMPED! The trailers had me excited, I went on opening day.

@prlation86 - " You think somehow magically they are going to come up with an explanation to the monster while attacking it, give you the entire thing before they get clipped?" usually this would be the 2nd 45 minutes of the movie. and most "monster movies" involve slaying the monster, not just making it to a friend stuck in the city then just dying.

"The point of the entire film is for you to sit there wondering WTF is that. " - when that goes on the entire film its called being lazy and stupid not brilliant.

"Its not meant for everyone, but it definetly isnt a braindead film." - by braindead i mean no plot , no character development, unstable camera, no ending,

A movie like this only works if you have at least some connection to the characters. That takes some getting to know the characters.

He sleeps with this girl 1 time but doesnt have the GUTS to make a relationship of it , why? because what other people will think? because he doesnt like her that much? because she gave horirble head? we dont know! but once the monster attacks he has the GUTS to risk his live and 3 other people he knows lifes as well . all for a girl he was just hours away from abandoning and moving around the world from.

so yeah i was real interested in watching this all unfold from the point of view of the guy following him's palm. he called him a friend, but i dont think he was much of a friend. he instantly betrayed his trust when he found out about his hidden love....

I hated it, no plot, moronic characters, it is quite like a rollercoaster ride infused with terror and it does that well. But with little else to offer other then throwing people in harms way every five seconds, it failed me. Honestly there is so much more they could have done with the movie, I'm quite disappointed.

i liked it, it was a different kindof movie, but the bad part about making it different is it had worse camera views. Although it does surprise me how the monster survives all those bombs and missles.

Movie mannors have improved if that answers your other question. :)

lol I feel old now. >_>

This will only take a moment of your time. *steals your watch*

Too bad. Cthulu deserves more screen time. Which is to say, any screen time.

I liked it for the most part. The end was a bit dissapointing. As in, it just stops, no resolution. I hate that in movies. Overall the film is very reminiscent of The Blair Witch project. If you liked Blair Witch you'll like this. That being said, while I like movies of this type, they're only enteraining the first time I see them. If they make a sequel I'd like to see it take the same path as Blair Witch 2. Meaning a more traditional style movie, only hopefully better done. Of course, at that point, I'd rather watch a Godzilla movie. Speaking of which, there are numerous Godzilla references if you pay attention.

I know you believe you understand what you think I said but I don't think you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

worst movie ever! completely and utterly dissappointed.
