Gran Turismo is Sony's one large mass-appeal franchise. It doesn't have the draw of Halo, and is nowhere near the level of Mario Kart and New Super Mario Bros. So no, Sony doesn't have 1st party software that is at the level of its competitors. In an increasingly multiplatform world this will be a challenge difficult to overcome.

Doesn't have the draw of Halo? GT5 just hit the 9m shipped mark and GT Prologue is around the 5m. What are you talking about?

And Halo 3 12m, Halo 4 likely 4m already, Halor reach is at what 10m? Combat Evolved 2-3m? Halo Wars is even a multi million seller if I'm correct.  Then Odst with 5m+.  i'm not looking at the numbers so don't quote me on any of this but yes Halo has been bigger than GT this gen and at this rate will catch up to GT in franchise sells.  Not taking anything away fromGT, just saying.

Well since Micro$oft is forcing 343 to pump out Halo games now and Gran Turismo games are for some reason taking longer to make it's quite possible that it can catch up but not for a while since the gap is at like 20m+ (I think?). Also you have to remember this has been a heavy FPS gen and who knows maybe next gen things will change and people will be drooling at the mouth for something other than call of duty type games.

they definitely have big IPs they can rely on, and they have been mentioned already.

But as someone mentioned the BIGGEST appeal of PS is the collective of first party talent they have. They bring some great new IPs (refer to titles like TLOU that have so many hyped) as well as the core franchises.

And no idea where you get this GOW and UC are possibly ending idea from. Not only will they not end sony would be stupid to let them end. One is the best selling H&S of all time and the other one of the best selling and highest acclaimed IPs of this gen.

UC can easily expand...not even sure if this needs to be debated. GOW...real easy. Expand into other mythologies and you have yourself a winner.

GT5 surpassed the expectations of many btw. PS is not in a strong position yet it sold remarkably well. Ethomaz should be able to give u the stats properly

Anywho yep..they are in a very strong position software wise going into next gen :) Can't wait to see what they bring.

I don't know what first party games are better, that's purely subjective. But as far as franchises that are bigger, based on the number of people that buy the product over this past generation, clearly Halo is bigger than anything on Playstation including GT, and Halo is literally 1/3 of the draw of games like Mario Kart and NSMB. So does Sony have a franchise that will sell its system? It has games that people will buy the system to play, but less so than XBox and much less so than Nintendo. 1st party software is a major dissadvantage for Sony.

Halo and gears are making their huge numbers off the "COD crowed." Yea they sell great but do they sell consoles? With a question like this sales don't really matter. Instead the question is which system has more "hardcore" players that will spend $500 just for one game?

I am glad that Sony doesn't rely on a single franchise (or two) and creates all kinds of games that appeal to pretty much everyone. They have lots of multi-million sellers as well.

Everybody wants to predict how well the PS4/ NeXbox and the WiiU will sell, however people has left out important info on why they think each will sell well.  So here is my question, what does Sony have that will make the PS4 sell well.  Microsoft has Halo and Gears which are both system sellers to a mass amount of people and on top of that the XBOX brand is higher than ever in America, as well as Nintendo having Mario, DK, Zelda, and this list never ends.  Sony has a ton of franchises but does any of them really have that mass appeal that people will just blindly go in and buy the system right off of the bat for a high price?  The three biggest franchises that they have is Uncharted ,God of War, and Gran Turismo, but are they big enough?

Explain your answers and try not argueing.

You ask a question in the title and answer it in your closing sentence.

Providing they can be out within a Year or 2 of PS4 launch...

Gran Turismo (EU)
Uncharted (EU/US)
God of War (US)

What Sony really need is a game that can sell a Million or 2 in Japan. They need to invest quite seriously because Ninty will be taking DQ and MH... FF is no where near what it once was.

The comments that are making the most sense is the ones saying they don't rely on one franchise. What I'm asking and I should have probably include this is does Sony have a franchise that will sell it out of the gate?
