Sony doesnt have great-selling titles.

Why people seem to leave out Gran Turismo, still!

Again, the only company with extreme selling franchises is Nintendo. Sony and Microsoft are basically tied, but Sony has more IPs that sell moderate-good.

I was talking generally across their main exclusives - most of the well known ones tend to sell 2-5M. GT is huge but I doubt it will be there at launch and while it is definitely a major system seller in Europe, its effect is smaller outside of Europe. Besides I was not commenting on the make up of sony and MS ips like you are - just pointing out what I think about the ps4.

Seriously, though, really strange thread for me.  I buy consoles for their library, not for one game.  It's different for some people, I know, but I think there are enough people who feel the same way I do that Sony should be just fine next generation.  After all, even this year, which has been a down year for Sony exlusives, a year when Microsoft launched one of its biggest games ever, and the PS4 will still probably out-sell the 360 or come very close.

Doesn't that tell us that this question is probably inconsequential?

I don't know I actually think Sony might be in a better spot than Microsoft. Not only does Sony have more 1st party franchises which gives them the ability to have a larger library at launch. But most of Microsofts big names have games that either just came out or are coming out soon. How long will they have to wait to launch the neXtbox with a Halo and GOW game?

It is worth noting that Uncharted 3 and God of War 3 are the only PS3 exclusives besides GT to post over 1 million sales at launch. God of War is especially impressive since launched in March. These are definitely the big 3.

They'll rely on 3rd party titles like Call of Duty.  They'll definitley be pushing the new Kinect. Core gamers will buy their console regardless of the launch line-up, especially if it can play 360 games.

Hum I wonder what numbers can GOW do if its released in winter.

Gran turismo is like FiFa. It doesn't seem like it will sell but it does. For some reason I still feel like its not that big of a title. Its just receiving some lucky charms.lol

Yes, the Fable and forza is bigger then God of war though. Though Forza and Fable are on decline, too soon to tell with God of war. So that is why I say they are almost equal.

You're massively wrong. God of War is much bigger than Forza and Fable and it's never had to be massively bundled. Fable is a 2.5 - 4.0 million selling franchise and Forza is a 1.5 - 3.0 million selling franchise, Forza 2, 3 and Fable 2, 3 only sold so well due to mass bundling and God of War III is still way ahead of them at 5.2 million which Sony announced on the 30th May 2012, it's sold a lot more since then and is now roughly at 5.4m+.

The God of War games are 4.25 - 6.00 million sellers. God of War III will pass 6 million this gen easily as it's already at about 5.4-5.5m and there's a new budget essentials edition and the new Saga collection which has been selling VERY well. Not to mention God of War III was hardly bundled at all, released during a PS3 shortage and had a terrible marketing campaign and it still went on to be one of the biggest exclusives on HD consoles and the best selling game in its genre of all time. God of War: Ascension will also be a 5.5 - 6.5 million seller and will definitely pass 6 million unless the PS4 launches before Q4 2014 which would cut its legs short a little bit.

With the way the God of War franchise growing and the fact millions of people are already anxiously waiting for God of War IV (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOwCvW_4x_k 6.4 million views or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUY1MeMaFVU with 4 million views and there's more fake videos with millions of views) even though God of War: Ascension has been announced as the next game in the series, GoW4 is going to be the biggest in the series yet selling 6.5 - 7.5 million and will be a HUGE system seller.

And God of War is bigger than Uncharted as well; UC2 was bundled a lot, has had an extra xmas holiday and is 6 months older and yet GoW3 is only about 300-400K behind and is catching up. UC3 is the most bundled game on HD consoles this generation and once the game stops being bundled sales will slow down considerably and it is unlikely to pass UC2 by a significant margin if at all. Uncharted is really only a medium-high tier 3.5 - 4.5 million selling franchise if it wasn't bundled so massively, I don't know why some people think it's a big franchise when it's really not at all. Are Resistance: FoM, MotorStorm and LittleBigPlanet huge sellers? No, they sold 4-5 million because of mass bundling just like Uncharted 2 & 3 sold a lot mainly because of bundles, yet I rarely see people criticise Uncharted's sales for depending heavily on bundles like they do other games.

Gran Tursimo and God of War are Sony's most popular and beloved franchises, both are huge system sellers. Uncharted and LittleBigPlanet are big sellers and will help shift a lot of consoles. Resistance, Killzone and Infamous are decent/good sellers but are unlikely to help boost console sales much. Some new IPs could help the PS4 but it'll most likely be sequels to existing franchises that will help push PS4 sales most around the first year on sale, if the new IPs are successful and get sequels then they could be big system sellers for the PS4.

You are missing the point because I fail to be concise. Forza AND Fable> GoW. Forza 360 avg 3.7m+ Fable 360 avg 4.4m = 8.1m > any God of war.

I honestly do not think so.

Uncharted and God of War are not console sellers in my oppinion.
Gran Turismo may actually do the job but I doubt it; as it is more a slow start, long run franchise. (do not get me wrong, it sells well but it is not as high the first week as blockbusters like Halo or COD, which is what is needed in my oppinion for a new console seller).

I think that this time, without the help of Metal Gear Solid (going multi plat.), Sony needs to come out with a new and VERY original franchise if they want to sell the console just with that.

But frankly, I would not be worried anyways, even without a killer game, the console will sell well enough if they are coming with a good pricing this time. The fan base is healthy enough.

See I have a similar way of thinking. Gran Turismo is the big one but I don't know, I feel like it has lost a lot of fans this gen as well.  Still huge none the less.  I really wasn't expecting this thread to blow up to be honest.   I know a lot of people are thinking God of War and Uncharted but we dont even know if they will be continueing them or not.  It's like Gears on XBOX.  We really don't know if they will somehow continue any of those games.  Uncharted makes sense but knowing Naughty Dog they may stop and give it a break

Sorry, I was never intending for people to think Sony was going to fail.  I meant will it come out of the gate with a huge crowd following it or will it be a few years like the PS3 for it to gain a crowd. Ill be buying PS4 and the neXbox when they come out most likely.  Well I'm sure I will with the NeXbox because I know they're making Halo for it.  But then I thought about all the exclusives for the PS3 but none of them are really established beyond Uncharted, GT, and God of War.  God of War and Uncharted sell really well but not massive either, plus we dont even know if they will be continueing them.  So that's why I thought I'd ask

And I haven't read all the comments, so I can only imagine what that was like O.O  I stopped somewhere around the FF vs GT debate
