Let me expand on this. (All numbers from VGChartz, & Japan only).

Vita hardware has never outsold the 3DS in a single week in Japan. In an aligned launch, the Vita outsold the 3DS on exactly one week: corresponding to the week before the 3DS price cut in August '11, when the 3DS sold only 4,000 units. The week before that was the second-worst week the 3DS has had to date in Japan, with just over 16,000 sales. The Vita has sold fewer than 16,000 consoles in 37 of its 47 weeks recorded on VGChartz. For emphasis: the second-worst week the 3DS has ever had in Japan, which was due to an impending price drop, is a stand-out week for the Vita.

The two consoles aren't in the same league in Japan.

Its a shame because I do really enjoy my Vita but I guess it won't be getting any more 3rd party japanese games no more :(

In the west theirs hope as sales have increased for 5 weeks straight, will likely do so again finally getting the system to 80k+ for the coming week. I still think they should have released the system over here with 16GB internal memory ,3G as standard, making it a complete premium system which could retail for $300.

In Japan it seems this was the only way for things to go, before the system even launched Square Enix and Capcom had essentially withdraw their support and already picked their system of choice in the 3DS. I thought the Vita would do really well because it would have type 0 in the launch window and thought Resident Evil revelations would go multiplatform as the vita seemed a better system for it. Oh, well... We'll have to wait till Nintendo's next handheld to fulfil the potential the Vita brought to this generation of systems.

Is there any hope for the Vita at this point? Guess and wait to see how well it does in the holidays.

Its not like it is even just japanese sales here either. Cod is here already and there is still no sign of the thing picking up. Otherwise the media would have reported about it flying off the shelves like 3ds did. Declassified is a flop just like assassin's creed.

Yeah I mentioned this in another thread, really quite alarming when you look at it like that...

The worst part is the lack of ANY real game in Japan that can change this...

In japan it seems not. SOny either have to bag Final Fantasy or Monster Hunter and a exclusive seems impossible at this point with the 3DS success in Japan. Alternatively they could create a new IP which will would go on to be as big as one of the above titles. Monster Hunter on the PSP was pretty much a over night smash hit, Maybe Soul Sacrifice will replicate some of its success. 

If anything things will only get better in the next few weeks

the ton of free games you get with psn+ on the vita now stinks of what they did with the pspgo here in Europe when you got 10 free download games for buying it, I mean I absolutely think that it is a damn amazing deal the games you getting free for signing up for psn+ but... where do you go from there when you are giving away everything your system has for free to sell a few units. Time to have a proper pray for the Vita over the next few months cos this holiday season is vital for the system.

Assassins Creed launched and sold 100k units which is amazing for a game on a platform of 3million users, far from a "flop" and as for call of duty that will have little to no impact on the japanese market anyway, no one would ever expect an fps to change anything for a system in japan, it isn't their thing.
