Even if they would want to step in, i'm not sure they even have the money to do anything.

How much does Nintendo have in their bank account these days?

I know jack about shares, takeovers, bonds, anything like that. In fact, the only time I see it is when Kowen posts a thread about it on these forums. I could post a generic "I'm sure you're right Kowen" or join in on the doomed discussions without really understanding why they're so doomed, but that would seem a bit frivilous. |
Well, this article actually explains the hill to climb pretty well without really overcomplicating it, if you're interested.
It gives a few terms like net debt (debt deductions and such) and gross debt (basically, total debt) for Sony, but it's pretty straight forward.
Wouldn't it be cool if Nintendo was to buy Sony!!! Nintendo currently has ~$10 billion dollars in cash assets that are currently liquid http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2011/annual1103e.pdf. Sony's market cap is currently at $9.6B, if Nintendo was to invest only 45% of it's total liquid assets it would give them at least 50% controlling stake on the company. I know it's a long shot, but it would be nice to see these two Japanese videogame companies to merge into one.

Care to share reason? At least with Chinese takeover they really would because they don't want to their biggest rival in Asia to gain tech secrets.

Well refinancing debt isnt unusual. Its an ongoing thing. All large companies carry debt that they regularly re-finance. |
Why is that? To get away with lower taxes?

Sony isn't a video game company and a Nintendo Sony marriage is a non starter. |
Yeah, I've never heard of a Sony video game console /sarcasm.
This doesnt look good at all. Maybe next year will bring a change of fortune for Sony but I have my doubts.
If they ever survive, they need to come up with a game changer, I doubt they have it in them.
