Keep in mind... in a takeover you have to offer more then the current share price by quite a bit usually.   Not to mention Sony would likely insitute a "poison pill" option.

Oh yeah forgot that :(
But AMD also isnt doing well right now ... there are rumors for AMD to be sold ... maybe that would be a better investment for ms

But buying shares for sony right now would be not a wise idea and the chances that you will make profit in the near future is slim.

There are different rumors about MS buying someone big every day. The most likely ones are Nokia and Nvidia. Well after Skype last year with 7 billion USD, Sony is easily possible, but it won't happen, because Sony will do everything they can to protect their company and MS won't buy a Japanese company (IMO)

Your right that this is pure MS fan dreams, but MS needs Japan appeal more then anybody

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Kinda funny not seeing any Sony fans on this type of threads (well except a very few).

No offence, but what do you expect?

I can only speak for myself as a Sony fan.  I lurk in these threads.  But I have nothing I can add to the discussion (until now! :P).  I know jack about shares, takeovers, bonds, anything like that.  In fact, the only time I see it is when Kowen posts a thread about it on these forums.  I could post a generic "I'm sure you're right Kowen" or join in on the doomed discussions without really understanding why they're so doomed, but that would seem a bit frivilous.

Aside from that, while I understand the importance of Sony staying afloat for the SCE that I love's continued presence in the gaming industry, that's what I care about the most.  I visit these forums for news and discussion about gaming, mostly.  If Kowen posted a thread tomorrow that Sony had gone under, I would look for discussion about what's happening to the Playstation brand over anything else.

So yeah.  Like I said, can't speak for anyone else, but just suggesting some reasons why there's an absence (and also representing so there's an extra 1 to add to that 'very few'! :P)

Why did you quote Kaz, your post had nothing to do with what he said.

Buying Sony would likely be the opposite of that... it'd probably actually hurt MS in Japan.   Though it's rapidly changing, there is still quite a bit of nationalism in Japanese consumer behavior.

They want products made by japanese countries made in Japan.  Made by an American company, that has it's manufacturing in japan.... probably would be seen as a negative.

Korean products are breaking into the market due to price... and Apple products due to... being apple, but as a whole.  It's still a very nationalized and "Patriotic" market.

In some other thread someone mentioned Google buying Sony

Does this hold any truth?

Hell MS can buy Sony if its only worth $12 billion.

You get your entertainment hub for Xbox with Sony music and movies and win the console war in one shot. Scrub the rest/sell them off piece by piece. A man can dream.

9.8bn

if you want to have 100% share ... 51% is enough so $5bn ... so ms could easily afford it, but I dont think that will happen.
wasnt $5bn what ms had in profits for the last quarter ?

Not to mention that Japanese government would probably step in if Chinese or western company tried to buy Sony.

I doubt it.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...
