Forums - Movies & TV - Have you seen Skyfall?

One of the worst movies of the year. The story may have been better or deeper than past James Bond movies, but I don't care about that stuff. I watch James Bond for the shooting, fighting, and the driving, all of which were garbage in Skyfall.

Spoilers from here down

The only scene that was on par with past Bond moves was the opening sequence. After that, the action went supremely mediocre. The fight in he building was extremely short and wasn't very good either. Then he went to some Chinese club and shot a few dudes and got in a fight, but again, that was over in a few seconds because the mutant crocodiles did all the work. He then killed a few guys on that deserted island, but again, the entire action scene was over in a few seconds. The only prolonged action scenes were the opening scene and the ending scene. The opening was alright and the ending scene was trash. I'm probably missing a few scenes, but it's not my fault they were forgettable.

The ending scene was so terrible. The entire showdown when they were in Bond's old home was just stupid. Like a typical C-level popcorn flick, the bad guys kept walking in to the house, while Bond and his friends took them out with ease. And like those cheesy popcorn flicks, the enemies never have the ability to aim decently for some reason. Seriously, throughout the entire movie were the most inept enemies I've ever seen. Bond had super talent and accuracy, while it seems like the enemies had just then put a gun in their hands. It was terrible. The only good action scene was the beginning.

And the absolutely final scene, where Bond killed the psychopath (I forgot his name), that was the worst of them all. The antagonist had the blonde lady (I forgot her name) right in his hands. He could have killed her right then and there. But for some reason, he bitched up and said only she could kill them both. He then pointed the gun to both of their heads and put the lady's finger on the trigger, telling her to shoot. Then there was a moment of silence as you wondered if she would pull the trigger. Then...surprise! James Bond comes to save the day. During the scene, Bond was never stuck at any place, so the audience was never worried that he wouldn't show up. They didn't even try to make it seem like Bond wouldn't make it. Most predictable moment of the year, perhaps.

Spoilers end here

For a Bond movies, it was only 10% action, mostly bad action at that. The rest was just filler. Some say the story and emotions were great. I have two things to say to that. Firstly, who goes to a bond movie for a deep story? Not me. Secondly, the story isn't that great either. Sure, it may be better than past Bond movies, but when comparing it with movies that try to convey a deep narrative, then Skyfall just seems weak. It could have been excellent at what worked best, instead it was only okay as it tried something entirely different. I wanted to see a Bond movie. Instead what I got was an okay story with extremely short bouts of mediocre action sprinkled in between.

I don't see the hate for it in this thread. Everyone I spoke to absolutely loved it, and agree it's one of the best Bond movies out there.

Interestingly; I've noticed the people who didn't like it as much aren't from England, but are American. Maybe this has something to do with it? Not saying anything, just an interesting pattern...

I'm American and loved it.

*grumble, grumble*

Yeah I meant to say 'most' in there somewhere. But the general feel is that the film was made more for the British audience than the American one, and reviews/opinions on the whole would confirm this.

So basically this is a reboot of the reboot to show the origin of james bond all over again like we just saw 2 movies ago with Casino Royal when Bond had that impossible hand of cards. So we have to watch an aged, boring, limp James bond half ass his way through the new millenium. He lets the hot asian die. Cannot catch a guy with now (spoiler), then he takes us ....too bad the budget was spent on Adele singing for the first hour of the film...to his parents house instead of a space station, or laser arena, or the ocean or diamond mine, or anything else cool because they ran out of money paying adele to sing one decent song for them. While there he decides to shoot himself into a frozen marsh lake where he some how evades the lochness monster, swims out and kills the baddie with something. That was entertaining and good writing?

Meh.  I will put up what I think of it later.  I'm pretty sure that most people will take my opinion more seriously than yours.

SPOILERS PRESENT

We get to see a train ride where bond ( loses more than just the NoC list), nothing exciting there, then another hour of him training and doing nothing but muddying up the situation. The new Q is a lamo. Oh! Here take this gun that only fires with your finger prints, and a homing beacon! Whoo!

Mean while fat, chinese men can be eaten by ( spoilers) ( also bullshit?). Then that sniper...what is the deal with that? Bond seriously let him fall out the window that was shattered by a stray bullet? After the boring training sequence we get to see Loki...errrr... I mean Bardem in a cell mocking "M" and making her feel bloody awful! Is it just me or did it seem like he wanted to help her have his babies? Then we get another half hour of "M" cracking on with the Female Prime minister, who is a bitch, and the whole situation going from Joker in a cell to joker crawling through the sewers making his escape and the whol Scotland yard and MI6 not being able to stop the ( guy with the missing Spiler). He then walks into the government headquarters. let me stop there. Just try to walk into the White house. Put on a police uniform,, die your hair like a crazy person, smile maniacally, and try to walk in there with a gun and some henchmen. Must I go on? 2.4-5 stars. Amp made it lose .1 for arguing.

But your argument is nonsensical. This film was meant to be about the simplicity of Bond, rather than having hundreds of tacky one-use gadgets. And I liked that; it was more the thinking-man's Bond anyway, rather than just go in, shoot bad guys, use gadgets and get the girl. Which is fine, but this film should not be criticised for being now. Also, M was made to feel bad throughout the whole film; that was the point. To make her realise that she's only brought the organization down by being unable to let go of the classics and embrace the modern world. So that made sense.

And the reason MI6 couldn't stop him is because he was a computer hacker; a modern, youthful character in the old-fashioned HQ of MI6. Q was the only one who seemed like he was actually trying to improve the facility and modernise their security.

And the whole 'walking into government' thing would probably be easy enough. Sure the doors are closed but there's not that much security; especially only for a hearing. I think perhaps you're mistaking the Houses of Parliament for Downing Street; which would have been ridiculous to just walk in.

END SPOILERS

Anyway, opinions are opinions, but you sound more uninformed and disappointed that it was trying something different; and as such are being unfairly harsh.

aint out here yet but it sounds like the people who didn't like it were unhappy with there not being enough gadgets and invisible cars in it.

I am sure they will. They are too afraid not to.  "-P

Seriously though I did not like it. Obviously Bond enthusiasts and British people did though. So to each their own.

Don't start that crap.  I am not the type of guy to start handing out moderations because they don't like the same movies that I do.

A thinking-man's Bond? In what way? The action played out just like older ones, he went in and killed them with ease, except this time, the action was ten times worse. If they wanted to try something new, they could have at least made the action good.

Thinking? Where was the thinking? SPoilers present!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spoilers!!!!!!

The bullets in the house? "M" a desk jockey knows how to do that? Could someone tell me what the point of the game warden was again? What part of this movie made you think? We go from the last movie where Bond is a bad ass, to this movie just 1 year later IRL where he can barely hold on to an elevator. This film was made for nostalgic reasons only. The only reason it was saved in my eyes. Craig shooting at the end and the bond will be back sequence. I am not being unfarily harsh. I did not enjoy it. I have never came on this site and just said something was pure garbage just to say it is pure garbage. If I truly do not enjoy somehting I am going to say it.

Oh, we know that you have no problem telling people what you don't like...

I never cared about about gadgets and stuff like that. If the action was any decent, then I would have loved it, but sadly, it was trash. Daniel Craig should have made Cowboys and Aliens 2 instead of this monstrocity they call Skyfall.
