Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U have an automatic shutoff feature (60 min "afk"), it can be turned off / adjustable time

Nintendo missed a golden opportunity with this. Imagine how easy it would have been to force all games to have an "auto off auto save" feature so this doesn't happen. I guess games could patch it in like trophies but it would have worked a lot better to just include it at launch.

Those times when I left the games all night intentionally for Smash to get all the trophies, 20+ played hours, can't remember but there's nothing like your mother's voice telling u: "Shut the Nintendo now" whatever console you have. Nice feature, won't use it

This should be good actually. Who leaves their console unattended for 60+ min? Unless they're taking the greatest dump in their life or they just simply forgot.

I don't have to worry about falling asleep and leaving my console on. I remember the days I've fallen asleep and waking a few hours later to know that it's 3-4 0 clock in the morning. I brush my teeth go back to bed and wake up to find out that my Wii (and n64) has been on all night running Super Smash Bros.

If you mean minutes, then I've done it.  Sometimes real life interrupts.  Someone will call, a friend will come to the door, I'll go to look something up and forget I had a game going.

*face palm* Fixed This happens to me even after doing heavy spell checking.

The X360 also have it, and I am not sure if the PS3 have it. It should be something all consoles should have because acidents with consoles staying up for days and started a fire were not that uncommon in the past..

both true and this isn't a big deal.  in fact it is a good feature to have.

My brother accidentally left my Wii on for about two days and it burnt out. I had talked with Nintendo about the issue to get it repaired.

In other words, you're welcome.

Yeah can't really see something negative in it because you also can change it.

If it was 15 minutes and you could not change it that would have been a big deal.

It feels almost like they are trying to find something negative. Maybe they should have gone with 'your arms get to tired).

Well that is a good feature, I sometimes forget my console on.

This is actually a pretty awesome feature. I have my TV set to turn off after four hours, my DirecTV reciever for four, my PS3 for two, and my 360 for two. That way, when I fall asleep watching Netflix, the devices suffer minimal side effects. This feature alone is why the PS3 is my Netflix device of choice. Until an update last year, the 360's lowest time was 6 hhours. The PS3 had way more options. I HATE coming home from work to find my daughter's TV and Wii on and it's showing nothing but a Netflix menu for who knows how long. It's a waste of energy and it could potentially harm the console AND cause bur in on the HDTV. To me, this was sort of a big deal.

Good to know the Wii U will offer this benefit.

*slowly raises hand*

I have put the, "D" on my girl and it could take a while. She is an all-nighter so hour-long sessions are a norm around these parts.

I use these features on any device i can. I pay the electric bill around here and the less we use the better off i am. So i am glad for this feature
