Forums - Sony - A Hypothetical PS Vita Phone.

With PSM there is no need for Sony to use Android for the Vita. PSM is almost an identical platform. If it won't receive new apps as is, Android developers can easily port over the apps they made for the Android Marketplace. Come next year, PSM will start to look impressive. (70 titles expected by Christmas and PSM is still in beta, after that new titles will explode in number)

If someone wanted right now their Vita could be a phone, though expensive. Through Skype you can have a number for a fee and while you can keep it a wifi phone, you could always also pay the AT&T data plan to ensure you have more constant phone availability. I'm not sure how effective the Vita would be for this since you would need to always have your Skype app running, which would drain your battery and maybe time out the app. The wifi phone option utilizing voice mails is probably the best route for this. Essentially it would be like having a speaker only phone unless you used a headset/headphones. It is impracticable but possible.

Making the Vita a slider causes some problems, or more like trade offs. One, the analog sticks would have to be traded out for circle pads, like in your picture, because it is very doubtful they would engineer a friendly solution to keep analogs. Two, the back touchscreen.might be difficult to keep. Though if the bottom part of the slider was enough out of the way it could be possible, despite becoming harder to utilize than the current set up. Three, the gyro use will be less fluid because of the way you hold it. These are probably decent trade offs for someone who wants only a phone to carry around while still being able to play a full dedicated systems worth of games.

If battery life could be extended by reducing power consumption and the internal parts can shrink considerably to avoid the phone being as thick as a sandwich, then a Vita phone would be pretty nice. I'd get one if I don't have a phone by then. They should just avoid putting Android on it and make sure they maintain that 5" screen.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Like I said in the other thread, it's all about software prices. The 1 dollar app ecosystem is too much competition to release a 40 dollar game.

My first thought: Ngage.

We all know how that turned out.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I just want somebody to give us the option. Why can I not buy a phone that has the option to play decent games? Hell if I could play only PS1 games, I would be pleased. Give me Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy 7, and Gran Turismo 2. Why do we have to use shady tactics to play these types of games on our phones?

To me Sony, and Nintendo are stupid to not put out PS1, NES, SNES, N64, and PSP games out for all devices. High end phones are capable enough, and the ability to play those games is not going to stop everyone from buying a 3DS or a Vita.

So yes, I would love a PS Vita Phone, but if not that, at least give me something.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Well there is the Xperia Play that had PSone classics on it. Only they weren't the ones tied to PSN and there weren't a ton of them. Though software availability would be nice, especially considering those games are old, for a company that makes hardware it isn't the greatest idea. Not just on the money from the hardware directly but the fact they make money off of all software sold and any accessories. So they want to encourage people to buy their hardware, not others hardware.

It would be nice if they made an Xperia Vita.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Can't fail any worse than the current Vita.
