why would i have to kill anyone to save someone in the first place?

It's a hyothetical situation. Meaning, just assume you're in the proposed situation (the reason doesn't matter) so we can discuss the actions that you would make afterwards.

If you really need an explanation, then I'll give you one:

Imagine that some evil dude named Dr. Nepharious kidnapped X number of random people (we don't know if they are innocent or not). He then ask for your permission to kill some other random innocent person in the world. If you give him permission, then he'll kill that one innocent person and he'll free the other X people. But if you don't give him permission, then he won't kill the innocent person, but he would kill the X random people that he kidnapped.

What number would X need to be to make it okay to kill the one innocent person?

Given that i have no information what kind of people did he kidnapped, and i only know they outnumber the innocent person, i would have to let the innocent one die.

so are you the one that voted 2?

So there would only need to be two people for you?

I haven't voted.

Tease.

Depends on if the person that I had to kill was someone that I have known for a long time.

Yeah, if i had no other info on the people and someone asked me ''do you want 2 or 1 people to die?'' i'd say 1

I think 42 is a decent answer.

Why it isn't in the poll then? Cheater! xD

I voted 10. I would have voted 2 but in a random sample it's not likely enough that both of them are innocent (and thereby justifying killing the first guy).

Yes, I would rather get the killer, but that's my answer to your question.

Well hard question. I voted for the  entire human population.

Let me change the situation a little bit.
You remember dark knight? The scene with the 2 boats? Where noone bombed the other boat? Thats unlikely because humans are idiots.

So lets say there is news like: "bad people were hiding a nuke in our city they want us to kill person XY otherwhise they will bomb the city"

I would more likely kill everyone who wants to attack the innocent person( may it be a million people) than kill the 1 person.

Why? because:
1 innocent life = 1000000 innocent lifes.
BUT
1 innocent life > 9999999999999999999999999999 corrupted lifes

And because the rest of the city turned from innocent people to corrupted people (because they clearly want to kill 1 innocent person which makes them everything else than innocent) They gave up their status as innocent people and dont need to be treated as such.

if noone would go vigilante I would do nothing at all and leave the city.

But because something like this will never happen I dont own a gun and dont plan on owning a gun EVER     You guys dont need to worry LOL   and If I would kill 1 innocent person by accident I would have to kill myself because I failed my own logic    and thats to risky  ;)

well technically 2 is the most logical answer. Its like paying 1 dollar to get 2 dollars. Sure, I'd love to pay 1 dollar and get 1 billion dollars but anything over 1 is better than the alternative.

Once again, you could rephrase the question as: Would you rather kill 1 innocent person or 2. Obviously the 1 person dying would be the more logical choice.

I vote 2.
