Forums - General - Itunes , Google Play, Windows store, Amazon, PlayStation store, etc. Where do you buy?

Too many choices, not enough freedom. Where do you guys buy your digital content? I'm in the market to buy a tablet and possibly a new laptop or a desktop. And I find that the biggest decision I am facing is what ecosystem to buy into, not which device I like the most. I may be misinformed but if I were to purchase content, Apps, Movies, Games, etc. on an Ipad I wouldn't then be able to access that content on an Android or Windows Tablet, is that correct? I really like my Galaxy SII and am interested in buying another Android phone when I update my phone. But I am also interested in purchasing an Ipad or Windows 8 Tablet/Laptop. It was easy when Windows dominated the OS market and Apps didn't exist, I would just buy the device that I liked the most, but now I feel like such a decision determines a long term commitment to that ecosystem in order to retain the value of digital purchases I would make in the future. I also have a PS3 and have that hooked up to my TV for easy viewing of movies. Though I think it is over priced I'd over look it to buy a movie if I really felt like watching it but the biggest deterrent is if I purchased a movie on that I wouldn't be able to watch it on my Galaxy SII or other devices, would I? All this fragmenting of content sellers is really annoying.
I was also going to buy my best friends daughter a tablet for christmas since she's 4 and loves playing with her parents' Iphones. There are plenty of tablets made for children in mind, but they are all Android based and I realized all the games she plays on her parents Iphones would not be compatible and vice versa if she buys games or movies on the tablet and leaves it at home or breaks it.

Does anyone else find all this frustrating when deciding what electronics to purchase? Or are there better solutions out there I am unaware of? Do you guys see this trend continuing or will something come along and eventually make it so all content is compatible with all operating systems? Also is purchased content at Google Play or Itunes or WIndows Store even accessable on another/new device that you purchase or is it device specific? My GSII is the only device I have right now outside of the Windows old operating system of websites and programs so I have never tried something like that.

I buy films on BluRay and TV shows on DVD, then just rip the DVDs or pirate the BluRays onto my Kindle Fire HD. Not technically legal, but you are legally allowed to own a backup of a disc you own, and frankly I see nothing morally wrong with watching a film I bought already on a tablet I own.

For music, I subscribe to Spotify Premium for £9.99 a month.

I can't bring myself to buy into a closed ecosystem. That's why I would never buy Apple. I can't imagine buying something I can only play on one device. It's a bold new world where we have to rebuy all our digital content across each platform and I for one am not playing ball digitally, but still pay for physical content. Best of both worlds.

i stick to Amazon, Steam, and Xbox Live, and sometimes GoG. I don't think I will add any more to my list unless i stop using one of the ones i currently use.

I have Amazon Prime and buy pretty much everything from them. I can DL MP3s or listen to them with Amazon's cloud player. The PS3 has an Amazon app so I can watch movies from there or from my PC. If I get a tablet it will probably be a Kindle Fire, so it should integrate perfectly. I know there are Amazon VOD apps for iPad, Xbox, and Roku, as well.

I rent movies from Amazon Instant Video from time to time. Mostly I stick to borrowed DVDs and Blu Rays. I would use the PlayStation Store more often but the download times are too long for something I delete after 1 viewing.

I buy physical whenever I can. I'll never buy a digital movie or even a digital song. Games however are a different thing because I feel they are tied to a product already. Buying an exclusive app on my Ipod is just like buying an exclusive game on Xbox.

psn for games but i've also used wii ware and xbla.
