The Xbox 720 and next-generation consoles seem to be a bit of a mystery in some respects, but not to 343 Industries as they seem to be working on next-generation development for Halo 5.

According to a report from the Seattle Times on Wednesday, Halo 4 franchise development director Frank O'Connor was asked about the development of Halo 5, and he acknowledged they have begun some technological and story-telling work on the game.

"We've done as much prototyping and storytelling and the future arc of the universe as we have on technology.

"So we're definitely working on the future but in some ways it's technologically agnostic at this point.

"We definitely have a lot of smart people inside the studio and outside the studio thinking about future technology and future development for sure," O'Connor said.

It is very interesting that O'Connor even answered this question as many, many developers have dodged this question over and over again, but this could be a sign of things starting to materialize for next-generation consoles.

Surprised he mentioned it? Yes I am shocked, but hey in all honesty we all know that the 720 is launching withing a year.

really should give this franchise a rest, but who am i to judge, i'm a pokemon fan :P

I wouldn't be complaining about that. Graphics might not make a game but always find it fun to explore environments like that. Its why I'm spending a fair amount of time in the Frontier in Assassin's Creed III.

I didn't think Assassins Creed 3's graphics all that groundbreaking to be honest. It is still a good looking game. Is it the same engine as revelations?

OT: Seeing as M$ own 343 and most obviously the xbox, 343 will be the first to know about the new system as soon as a change happens and have all kinds of cool kits that M$ would just hand down.. Wouldn't be surprised if it does look like that picture posted above!

I'm excited by that and I don't even like Halo.

OT: Wow, well... I guess vacation is overrated? :P Good to know that the Xbox 3 specs are being/have been somewhat defined now. Can't imagine it being released after 2013.
