here's why this is important..other companies had to do a joint venture to sell the consoles in China afaik. Now Sony can operate on their own selling the console. The branding had to be changed somewhat as well. Hence why it's mainly the grey market that has consoles.

The significance of this news should be pretty easy to understand. It's not about short term growth ...but for the long term strategy sony has achieved something important.

To be fair Sony does do pretty well outside of America, Europe, and Japan. http://www.vgchartz.com/analysis/platform_totals/Hardware/ROW/ Sort the sales by 'Rest of the World' PSP did some incredible numbers, and for the PS2 it's even bigger then Japan.

I'm not saying China will be the same but we never know, it could make a huge difference (sales wise) or not, but there's gotta be a start and this is the PS3's start, it could lead to something much bigger.

Maybe I'm talking about a different thread, who knows. I don't remember, but if this is the right thread the title was along the lines of Sony will dominate china now! or something like that.  Anyways I apologize if I'm wrong and as I said Sony should do fine in China.  I doubt they will dominate but it's nice to see them expanding.  Maybe within the next decade China could be big for gaming.
