Forums - Nintendo - First Wii U ad (US)!

Terrible ad, but I don't expect US games industry to have good ads outside of some from Sony like Michael and Butler. Most are like those CoD ads and battlefield ads, hilarious.

@bold:  Do you mean Marcus?

It's interesting that you take that stance, since most would say that Sony have had the worst of the three with advertising this generation, particularly when they were the kings of ads in the PS1/PS2 days.  But to each their own...

Marcus was pretty bad though, michael was the one where you have all the game characters in a room with a single human enacting a gamer.

And sony ads are pretty average otherwise. I haven't seen some of their earlier ones where they might have been super terrible.

Although come to think of it; the CoD ad for the one releasing this year is pretty good.

Good and bad.

Fine focus on core market (not core gamer) of families/women/kids/casual males. Ad is attention grabbing and displays a lot of the perks of Wii U. I see they went out of their way to not show any Wiimote swinging, in fact, wiimotes are barely shown at all.

However, if I was not in the know I'd assume the WiiU was a peripheral based on this ad. It only appears to show a new controller and not a new game system. All the games displayed look exactly like Wii games and nothing here suggests a new system is needed. It feels very similar to Kinect marketing in that way, except Kinect was a peripherial. Interested people will be in for a huge sticker shock when they hear $250.

If I was a 3rd party hardware maker, I'd be making 'WiiYou' gamepads for Wii and make a (dirty) killing this holiday.

Actually, now that I think about it, if I could get a 'wiiU' type controller for Wii that would allow me to play games like Monster Hunter and Xenoblade (or any Classic controller (VC) games) in a different room in the house when someone else is using the TV I'd pick it up in an instant.

Mediocre ad, but not really a big surprise. Nintendo's marketing of the system hasn't been great beginning with its first E3.

The Wii ads from 2006 were much better.

MY EARS!!!!! damn that commercial sucked!

dear god that makes the UK advert look like a masterpiece.

"Friday" would've been better audio for the commercial.....

Horrible ad. Not PS3 horrible, but still pretty bad. =/

Curse you dubstep!

I LOVE ICELAND!

ok video... but not going to appeal to "core" gamer. I'm buying one no matter what and I hope it delivers the 3rd party content so I don't have to purchase another Sony or MS console like I did this gen with a PS3. But, The music was kinda distracting and it didn't look as much fun as the Wii was represented in the "Wii want to play" commercials. They definitely need a more core gamer oriented commercial as well showing ZombiU, COD, AC3, etc.
