I will propose a fun exercise for anyone who is willing to do the work. Compile a list with the same criteria for the PS1, PS2 and PS3.

How about a better exercise. How about stopping to criticize and doing the exercise yourself.

Fine with me. Here is the result: The PS1 did well, the PS2 did even better, but the PS3 shows a collapse. After Microsoft entered the game business in 2001, Sony took a huge hit with the PS3 which was an enormous step backwards in high selling "hardcore" content. PS3 has half the size userbase as the PS2, but was not able to bring Sony anywhere close to half of the success in this area.

Thank you. Whether you're right or wrong doesn't matter to me. What matters to me is that you put an honest effort in explaining your opinion in light of OP.

You call that an honest effort? XP

I wouldn't classify Metroid as hardcore. You're a girl for pete's sake!

Hardcore = pornography with graphical focus on the act of sexual intercourse. These games are big in Japan; I am not sure if any exist on Nintendo consoles, maybe on PC.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Exactly how many Mario/Zelda games did you have to exclude from that list?

That's one of the worst definition of "hardcore" I've ever seen.

Good for you. Now propose an alternative that builds on OP rather than putting him down.

Okay, let me put it that way: the research done to get the sales of all the games is commendable but the selection of said games seems to have been done so the results would prove his final point. His rules conveniently exclude games that would go against his conclusion like New Super Mario Bros. Wii or Mario Kart Wii or Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Signature goes here!

For fun, SNES games as I recall, hard to get numbers this far back:

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior: 6.3 million ww
Street Fighter II: Turbo: 4.10 million ww
Final Fantasy III (VI Japan): 3.42 million ww
Killer Instinct: 3.2 million ww
Chrono Trigger: 2.9 million ww
Super Metroid: 1.42 million ww

Super Star Wars, Super Empire, Super ROTJ, Super Castlevania (phew), Contra III would probably have to be considered, I can't find numbers for those though.

Pretty low numbers.

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (GameCube): 470k worldwide
