So with all the shit thats been revealed last week and today with Polygon. Do you think its still worth visiting games sites anymore?

I think in general a little more integrity in the writers and more maturity on the part of the industry audience (gamers) will bring the medium a long way.

Isn't Polygon the site that was doing a feature length documentary about itself before it even opened, which Microsoft stepped in to fund? They were clearly going to be absolutely fucking worthless, and no one should be surprised by anything they do.

But yes, the state of games journalism in general is seriously dire.

I've never considered video game "journalism" anything more than hobbyist entertainment. It's not hard hitting, it's not important, it just media coverage. All I want from video game websites is the latest info on games.

Reviews, on the other hand, are important to me and I think they should be written with the same level of professionalism as movie and book reviews.

Polygon, the site that claimed it would "press reset" on games journalism.

Documentary (about itself) funded by Microsoft for $750,000, "sponsored by Internet Explorer." 

Copy-pastes a PR release of a Halo 4 Pizza Hut promotion in the UK (against its own ethical statement: http://www.polygon.com/pages/ethics-statement), brands it as "news".

Deletes criticising comments.

I never pay attention to it. I read the actual news and move on. You go to gaming sites for the forums, not the journalism!

I mostly read only historical and sheer technical gaming journalism now, reviews and previews are unintersting since the whole system has been rendered moot by the inflated scores and ridiculous 9-er fest of the 7th generation.

Gaming journalism isn't any worse than other journalism though, people seem to forget that most journalism is biased, crap or both.

Only good when it comes to reporting news and facts. Any opinion piece, speculation piece, or review is kinda throwaway if you ask me. I read them, take what I want out of them, and keep moving.
