Hope its somewhat difficult. Mario games in the past decade have been notoriously known to be so easy that 4 year olds can plow through. Super Mario World for the SNES had that perfect balance where you could finish without too much trouble but completionists needed skills to unlock everything.

Mario World to me is just as much challenging as today's marios. The nes games (especially the first 2) are the ones challenging enough. I played world as a 10 year old kid. Now it's much easier.
But play this one instead:
I guarantee it's harder than... Dark Souls or any game being called difficult nowadays. 100% on this bitch and you're a video game master.

I rather did enjoy both Yoshi Island games. But your first comment raised an eyebrow lol. People can rack up 99+ lives in a latest Mario games easily. Super Mario wasn't THAT easy :P

Lives in Mario were never a problem, as since since Mario 1 they were infinite (infinite continues)
Just compare Mario World with something like DKC 2 or 3. Mario World was the beggining of the Nintendo (japan developed) standard for difficult imo. The NES Marios, Zeldas, Metroids and Kid Icarus (and more) were almost cruel to kids. Nothing changed much since the SNES, imo - with exceptions, obvious, like Yoshi's Story DS that is more difficult than Ghouls and Goblins (it was not really developed by Nintendo too)
I think it's good they're putting some hardcore courses as dlc for Mario 3DS. You can see those look like those extra difficult mods you see on youtube. And this challenge mode in this game can prove to be er... a challenge.
Another must have for the Wii U, this is starting to look tempting!

Yeah, I just read that IGN piece and gotta say I'm hyped for this game now!! It's starting to look like the 2D Mario we all wanted!
I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!
Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.
