Forums - Sales - X360 is the most successful console of the gen

Well the 360 is the console I've purchased the most games for since the N64, that certainly makes it the most successful this gen in my book. By comparison, since 2009 I've averaged just 1 retail game purchase for my Wii per year after enjoying a strong amount of quality titles for the first 2 years I owned the console.

interestingly though, tast gen still has the strongest tie-ratios across all three major consoles though...

11.01 for Xbox,
10.66 for PS2
9.60 for the GC.

Aside from PS2, this could be attributed to the relatively low but dedicated userbases of both the Xbox and GC.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

In case of tie ratios, yes MS has done very well.
Count all those downloadable games as well, or even count 4 of them as one retail game and the 360 has already beaten the Xbox.

that's all nice and well but is this another thread basically saying that the Xbox does well in the US ? As I said comparing prices across regions is not exactly favourable.

Are you a share holder ? At the end of the day the 360 made a profit out of nothing selling subscriptiond for Live so by your logic the 360 is the winner.

You think Live isn't free for nothing? Wow.

It seems to me like Xbox 360 is both the least commercially successful and the most financially successful console of this generation. It never ceases to amaze me that Microsoft has been able to make a profit after losing billions on the Red Ring of Death.

This exactly is what determines success and both was very profitable.  Between XBLA, XBL, Kinect, Software, and hardware who knows who made the most profits.  I would say Xbox but because of the rrod id say the wii has been the most profitable.

As I said before we don't know digital sales.  most likely that would put them at similar number to the previous generation if we knew digital sales.

Like I said, downloads.
Not just Games on Demand or XBLA games, but also DLC or anything that takes money from you.

No idea what you're implying here. What have the prices of games to do with this thread now.
Also judging your last post, you forget that European games already include tax, which is around 20% in Europe.

You are just mad cause the Xbox is going to be 3rd this gen

Not exactly. I think it's not free primarily because they sell it in the US, they charge for it because they can given they are focused on a localized market.

they can charge for chat and they can charge for services. even the brand new wiiu is not really focused on cross game chatting because they are going for a global appeal and that is not a major selling point for their market

I'm saying that xbox owners buy more games because they are for the most part in the US and their market is far more appealing (cheaper).

I'm gonna insist, even the last gen tie ratios ( 11.01 for Xbox, 10.66 for PS2 ) do kinda show that it's a region thing. what it says is that the US is a stronger (and more appealing) market. as i said your day one price of 60 bucks (45 euros) is a pipe dream for us.

From a business stand point no it is not.  PS3 has been a failure for sony, they have lost a lot of money with the ps3 and lost market. nintendo and microsoft both gained market and gained profits so no it is not 3rd.  Units sold tells very little in success.

I don't agree with that. Tie-Ratio isn't' an indicator of success on its own.
You have to consider many other factors. But yeah, in the end when you consider everything from profitability for Microsoft, to online services, to game library to growth over last-gen....etc. The Xbox 360 is the clear winner.
