That's simple, it isn't about what Kinect is trying to duplicate, it's how it was sold. It was sold as an add-on to the X360 system, and it should be compared to add-ons to other systems. If the next console includes one with every unit then it can be compared to a primary, manditory controller like the Wiimote.

You are wise beyond your years, Torillian.

Not to mention that one is a $150 accessory that few games use while the other is utilized by every game on the console.

Its not $150 accessory, its bundled lol. Also it's $250 bundled with the 360, sounds familiar lol.

Yes, but for the primary userbase (i.e. the ~ 68 million who already own a 360), it's still an overpriced accessory.

Kinect released in 2010, the 360 definitely wasn't pushing 68 million. Also the 360 has had its best years ever since Kinect. Kinect is a bundled primary controller just like the Wii remote. Its also sold separately just like the Wii remote. I don't care how expensive it is, MS just it, knowing it would be an expensive option to the Wii remote. Being expensive didn't stop the PS3 from continuing to outsell the 360 even with being more expensive.

16.96M 360 owners have a Kinect out of 68.9M.  (Based on Kinect Adventures sales)

96.7M Wii owners have a Wiimote out of 96.7M.

Kinect is also NOT a primary controller. The primary controller is the standard 360 controller.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Wiimote has buttons, Kinect doesn't.

Kinect has motion sensing, Balance Board doesn't.

We comparing it to the Wiimote or the Balance board?

I am asking what makes Kinect a more fair comparison to the Balance Board instead of the Wii remote?

That's easy.

Kinect = add-on peripheral

Balance Board = add-on peripheral

Wiimote = Standard Wii controller since launch

Add-ons aren't heavily bundled with the platform. Controllers are, like the Wii Remote.

Kinect = motion sensing device, bundled with 360 since its release

Balance Board = Made for a single piece of software, limited bundled

Wii Remote = motion sensing device, bundled with Wii since its release

So is kinect vs. Balance board.

Both of those are attachments. Just because Kinect has more functionality doesn't mean it isn't an attachment. A primary controller is one that comes with every console sold.

Your point? Both come bundled and both can navigate the console, neither needs the other, which is what makes them both standard 360 controllers.

I am just glad that others have taken on the burden of bashing their heads against a brick wall.

Attachments don't come heavily bundled with consoles. Kinect has been bundled since its release. Just like the Wii remote. Which released first is irrelevant, if Microsoft created Kinect earlier then it wouldn't have been 5 years late.

Can you play Gears of War with Kinect?  If 9/10 games don't work with Kinect, how is Kinect the primary controller?

Point is that your are trying to state that the Wiimote and Kinect are in the same class when it comes to console dependance and functionality, which is not the case.

Nothing on the Wii gets done, especially within it's UI without the Wiimote. The same can not be said for Kinect.

Wii released in 2006, Wiimote in 2006 on same day.

360 released in 2005, Kinect in 2010.

How does Kinect now become the primary controller other than you saying so?

It is an add-on, secondary control scheme used by a very miniscule amount of 360 titles, whether it be mandatory or in many cases as an "add-on function".

"Better with Kinect" ring a bell? Ever checked to see what the Kinect funtionality was for those games? I can bet you that it was not those game's primary control scheme.

No they aren't. Example: Every other add-on besides Kinect. Primary controllers are bundled heavily with the console. Example: Wii Remote, 360 controller, PS3 controller, KINECT
