Forums - Politics Discussion - US Senate candidate: Pregnancy from rape can be ‘something that God intended to happen’

Sometimes casual porn is not enough, you look for something kinky.

I understand god here.

Maybe they are on to something.

Abortion, in this case, can also be considered a gift from, "God" right?

Everything ever in life can be considered a gift from, "God" according to this person, right?

Interesting read.

Bingo. You can't play the predestination card without playing it full hilt. If all things are meant to be, than those aborted fetuses were never meant to have life. We either have freedom of choice, or we don't.

I suppose i can't blame you for trying to derail the argument in a "taxes are theft" direction, since it will effectively break this thread off in a different direction and distract from the main point. But if we have all these charities, where are they? Without letting the whole thing fall off the cliff into anecdotal evidence, if they're so much better than the government at doing these things, why aren't they doing them?

Like the "free market," charity doesn't meet all of the needs it should, for various reasons that don't have to do with malevolence and have more to do with natural oversight (that and charity works better on a grass-roots scale, and can't do as good a job with the big matters of mass organization)

And let's try not to make things personal, huh?

I'm not derailing shit, I'm directly responding to your nonsense about conservatives' attitude toward the poor. Who says charities aren't doing things? When the government is spending over a trillion dollars a year on welfare and even that is apparently "not enough", that indicates that the government is really not good at doing this stuff. Charities would be hard pressed indeed to not be better than that.

LOL. "Let's not get personal now!" says the guy whose instant response to anything with which he disagrees is, "It's racist/sexist/classist/promotes rape culture!"

Then why aren't the charities doing it better, if they can do it better? That was the question i asked.

And you know what i mean. I've never called anyone here a racist, but you made specific degrading references to me (twice i counted over the course of this thread). I'm showing restraint, here.

Tolerance.

tolerance is voided when you're actively out to harm people. He's promoting a culture of rape, like Todd Akin, and therefore deserves nothing but condemnation (and it only goes as far as condemnation because we live in a civilized society. If i had it my way...)

Except he isn't.  I mean... again... you are a fan of Queen's blade.  That and a lot of other anime you've likely watched and liked has done way more to promote rape culture then anything he's said.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Anime/QueensBlade?from=Main.QueensBlade

Queen's blade is a promotor of rape culture.

It's not like he just said this to say this.

The remark came in a debate in response for why he doesn't believe in an abortion exception in the case of rape.

Saying "rape is horrible" but fetus are life, and sometimes some great people are born due to rape and that it might be a part of god's plan when such people are born of rape."

is FAR from "promoting a rape culture."

I'd posit that you are unwittingly a bigger supporter of rape culture then said senator... at least in action, the only defense would be your relative lack of influence.

No offense but stuff like this is why actual feminists who this is a real issue and want to work against rape culture and sexism  have coined the term "Brogressive"... at the moment your no better then Newt Gingrich complaining about someone elses family values.

You'll need to be more specific than that. Why aren't they doing it better than what, and based on what metric?

When Slimebeast says he agrees with the position and you start spouting off about how it's anti-woman, or I say I think it's reasonable to require a picture ID to vote and you say that such a position is racist, you are calling us those things. It's no less of a personal flame than saying, "Sony fans are tardbabies." I don't know what your other gripe is, but my comment that you are immature and get so overly emotional that everything comes down good vs. evil is (a) backed up by mountains of supporting evidence and (b) something you've even admitted from time to time when you've become too overwrought to make a coherent argument.

Whether God intended it to happen is irrelevant. The sad part is that he let it happen even though he knew it would happen, and saw it happen.

Mysterious ways indeed.

Still, getting riled up for someone saying that it is possible that God intended it to happen is ridiculous. How would anyone know for sure that God did not intend it to happen?

"Whether God intended it to happen is irrelevant. The sad part is that he let it happen even though he knew it would happen, and saw it happen."

Why must God stop every crime? Why does God have to stop anyone from being killed or raped? It's not his job that's ours as we have free will. If he stopped everyone from doing what there doing  when it's bad than he he would be controlling everything and we would not be willing coming to him.

It's not mysterious it's you not using you not thinking or knowing what your talking about.

If there's a God and he has the power to stop such things, it's not unreasonable to think that maybe he should. If you were a bystander who had the ability to stop a rape in progress but didn't, you would be condemned as a coward and rightly so. Why should Almighty God be held to a lower standard than mortal man?

It isn't interfering with free will. It's stopping someone who has used their free will to make a decision that harms other people.

Hi there, ninetailschris. Dodging a ban?

*ahem*

Bolded: Are you saying that God has no free will? Are you saying that God is not willing to help victims as things occur? I'm not saying that God has to stop anyone from being raped or killed, I just find it weird that he doesn't. If I had a rat farm, or just a regular farm for that matter, and saw one animal attacking another animal I would do something to stop it, not just stand there and watch things escalate. Just saying.

We've had the back-and-forth over this one as well, and the fetish-appeal of Queen's Blade is irrelevant to the argument, which is about the role of the pro-life argument as the promotion of an anti-feminist agenda (the making of women into sex objects being a different part of the problem)

Lack of influence indeed. Because despite the media i consume, i'm out there working against it. I would figure the semester working for an anti-sex-trafficking coalition outbalances three seasons of Queen's Blade (that i never paid for anyway)

And again, to bring this back to a theological perspective, predestination either holds, or it doesn't. It can't hold only partway.
