Forums - Sony - Sony rams Singstar down peoples throats

I still think people are currently making a mountain out of an ant hill.

If what you are mentioning happens and people complain to the high heavens like they probably will, SONY can just enable those icons to be placed into folders. Once again, crisis averted.

have you seen the responce of the Sony employee on the Eu blog?

She is very professional about it:

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

I haven't updated yet but I'm sure I would find it irritating and obtrusive.

Not really that big an issue, just click past it.

Yes, the size of it might be a little larger, but do we really sit there and just stare at the XMB? I'm going to go on a limb and say "no", so in the end crisis averted.

if this becomes a trend though and i end up with 10 or more icons to skip past it does (for me at least) become a big issue.

besides, a lot of peoples download speeds are slow and capped.  forced download of this game is ... not a smart choice.   bad move sony.

that would completely defeat the purpose of the "ad" if you folder it and make it easy to ignore.  you know, as much as i hate to admit it i think sony needs to find a better way to advertize psn content but this... this is just the laziest and least effective way possible.

What else could they do with the XMB layout?

If anything they need to drastically revamp the entire OS  UI. It's long overdue.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Out of 68 million PS3's I bet the negative feedback is like 1500 internet users who post?

That is a strawman argument and is only worth replying to to laugh at how weak it is.  I don't even need point out what is wrong with that.

Xbox Live has notifications of new gaming stuff on its dash and its got the most active paying userbase of all 3. So the small percentage of internet backlash hardly makes any mark. Actually it improves sales on Xbox 360 Digital software so wos to say this is bad for Sony. They ave to do it. Microsoft make way to much money for Sony to ignore. Especially now they are considered a risky company to lend money to.

Anyone who buys into a console which they don't have control over deserves what they get. I bought an iPhone and I knew it was going to be completely locked down and I can't do what I want with it in exchange for shiny, and I was prepared to make that trade. If you don't like it, don't buy into Sony's products.

ps4 baby -- there are a lot of things that are long overdue like cross game chat.  i'll let some things slide for now but if the ps4 isn't drasically better on certain things (like making downloads automatically go to the background instead of requiring an extra click and an extra 10 seconds) i'm going to be very very upset.

"Most active paying userbase". Is that a good thing?

They have the most active userbase including all of Sonys userbase. I meant they have the largest most active userbase and Microsoft only count Gold members. Their silver members arent included in their reports. Look how many players the top10 PS3 online games have playing across a month. Then look at Live. Last time I checked. Killzone 3 was number 5 in PS3 monthly played but had 2,000 different active users across the month. Halo 3 was number 5 for Microsoft with 500,000 different active users across the month. HUGE difference.

Sony includes in their total figures all acounts ever made with PSN active or not. Microsoft only include Active over the last 12 months.

Lol I don't even have this? Is it supposed to be a free game or something?

It would be an interesting thing to have the option to have a dynamic theme that changed each week that cycled through screenshots of new releases on the PlayStation Store. Every week it would change.

Showing games that hit the store, but it be the actual game and not a "poster" style ad.

You don't want that. The XMB already has enough info on to be cluttered by ads.

Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

It would just be an optional dynamic theme that would allow players to turn the PS3 on and see all the new content for the week, without having to go into the store...actually that would be counter-productive...scratch that idea.
