yes it is, and there is nothing wrong with that if they brought their own improvements

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

PR is one thing, but its a general consensus its inspired from Smash Bros.
When a game is made purely to cash in on a other game's success I consider it a clone. This game would'nt exist if Brawl did'nt sell over 10million and melee over 7million.

"It feels unpolished, loose, and the mechanics don't feel like they'd lend themselves to a competitive fighter." edit: the link to the post : http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=4818089
now this is an extract from your current post "90% of the control scheme, 90% of the physics engine"
to me it seems like you're heavily contradicting yourself there... in one post you say the game has poor controls and mechanics while in the other you basically say its controls and mechanics are the same as smash bros... now the conclusion that can be drawn is that you're also saying the smash has poor controls and mechanics but no i'm pretty certain that that isn't the case either.... |
No, I didn't say the controls and mechanics are the same. As you may or may not have noticed, I said 90% the same. And in the post you quoted I never said the control scheme was bad in particular.
Look at Smash Bros Melee and Brawl. Those games are basically built on the same engine, yet they play differently, mainly because of a relatively small difference in the airdodging system.
A competitive fighting game is like an intricate machine. All you have to do is tighten or loosen a couple of bolts and you have something that plays differently. That's what Superbot did here. They tightened a bolt here, they loosened a bolt there, and they called it something new. PASBR and Smash do play differently, in the same way that Smash set on time with 2.0 damage and items, and Smash set on stock with damage to 1.0 and no items played differently, or the same way Street Fighter 2 and Street Fighter 2 Rainbow Edition play differently. It's a tweaked game, not a new experience.
As for my original post, I'm not going to go into a whole lot of detail about that right now, but if you want fuller impressions of how I think the two games are similar and different, read this.

its a clone (from smashbros) and the think that surprise me is not that... is that the game is no 50% the fun smasbros is.

have you read the thing ? ofcourse it's inspired by SSB, Game Director Omar Kendall never denied that in this interview
First of all, it is a beta not a demo. There are only 6 characters in the beta and even the store demo version they wipped up is an early build despite having more characters.
The characters aren't unbalanced in my opinion, they play very differently from eachother and it takes time to learn their moves. If there is unbalancing, that will be fixed from the beta data or even after release if need be, especially for new dlc characters.
The game is faster paced then SSB, different physics, has more moves, and the characters so far are not clones of eachother.(even Cole and evil Cole).
Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

It's amusing, but the second major entry into a genre will always be called a "rip-off". Then, after awhile, no one cares, except maybe the angry, die-hard fans of the original, who are only hurting themselves and looking petty while doing it.
Rip-offs, clones, whatever, none of that matters in the long run at all. If something better comes along, it will replace the original, if both games do what they do well, then they both have a good shot at longevity. I mean, really, is there anyone who refuses to play Street Fighter because they're upset that it's a rip-off of Karate Champ?
Don't try to convince any of the disgruntled and indignant that All-Stars isn't a rip-off; instead, just tilt your head and say, "if it's fun, who cares? :D". Of course, many of them will decide that it's not fun BECAUSE they're upset about its origins, so whatever.
Also, that was a really good interview, and I found the sports analogy very interesting. In sports, 90% of what you're doing is working to get into position to score, which sounds like what they're doing with the Supers thing. You have work, work, work to get a shot at scoring, but then you still have to connect. Kind of like football, where you have to work your way down the field, but then you still have to get into the end zone for it to matter.
