The Genesis was actually more "powerful" in technical capabilitily. The SNES was just capable of producing the more colorful and prettier looking picture.

The Genesis had a faster CPU. The SNES was better at just about everything. The SNES could render larger sprites, more sprites, more colors on screen, and the difference in sound quality was substantial. Particularly with any game with voice sampling.

Don't forget Mode 7 scaling, that was one of the bigger technical advantages the SNES had over the Genesis.

Snes wasn't the most powerful of that gen, it was more powerful then it's closest competitor the Megadrive/Genesis yes but the most powerful wasn't the Snes, I think it was the Neogeo but not too sure as the were other consoles about but they bombed.

Yeah Neo Geo was practically the same as the arcade games at that time, system was about $700 to buy. Not sure the numbers it sold but I bet it's not that high because of the price tag. Again that proves that power isn't everything, there's also price and most importantly the games. You couldn't play Mario Kart, Zelda, Metroid on Genesis or NeoGeo. And Donkey Kong Country blew everything else away at the time in terms of graphics, most people at that time couldn't believe you could do that on a 16-bit system.
