Forums - Gaming - iOS wins (?) another one: Nihilistic software is no more

...the way they were

"There’s no bigger cliché in the videogame industry right now than to say that a studio is re-organizing itself away from retail game development and toward the new challenges of downloadable and mobile games. Everyone knows retail sales are down, publishers are hurting, independent developers are suffering, blah blah blah. With this in mind, Nihilistic is announcing today that (OMG!) we are re-organizing our company after 14 years of working with retail boxed game development, and re-forming as nStigate Games, a new company focused on downloadable, on-line, and mobile games.

So is this newsworthy? Well, honestly it probably isn’t, except that we are making this transition without any planned layoffs or leaving any debts behind. Nihilistic will fade into the sunset the way it started; a collaboration of talented folks dedicated to transparency and respect for employees. Over the next couple months we’ll get leaner as some of our talent finds new homes, and emerge as a smaller and more focused company.

The future for nStigate is yet to be written, but the history of Nihilistic is coming to a close. We thank all the people who have worked here over the last 14 years. It’s been a privilege and a joy to serve our players for the past years. We love what we do, and we love it when you guys like it. Thank you for playing."

Huh, usually you announce that after you released your last game, guys. Just sayin.

So BLOPS: Declassified, will be, according to them, a failure? Why change if you have hopes that you can still develop console games?? Looks like for them there is no hope left. mmmm....... Hopefully I am mistaken.

The only thing that matter to me for this game is If BLOPS Vita does not have a proper story mode i wont buy it. I hate objective based missions without story, because they are basically competitive muliplayer, but off-line. I dont like competitive multiplayer games. If there is multiplayer I want it to be co-op story mode. XD

SMH.
This could have waited until after Call of Duty Vita came out.....now it has no chance of selling or saving the Vita.

Why did Activision let a studio with such a bad track-record develop a Call of Duty game? Are they trying to ruin the franchise to the ground?

Yes. This news is what is going to cause 'Declassified' to sell poorly.

Western publishers don't care about handhelds.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Exactly what I preach.

Poor is the handheld that loses Japan.

Finally, some good news for Vita.

Doing so before even releasing their last game seems like a bad decision, but it'll be interesting to see how they do in their new endeavours.

I wonder if this is going to make other Vita third parties a little nervous.

I'm not sure with CoD that matters, otherwise it wouldn't sell as well as it does. Because seemlingly 90% of the forum/n4g bashes it.

But maybe with handhelds it does and thus your point.

So which is it they aren't laying anyone off, or that a bunch of people that worked there need to find new jobs...

When studios have layoffs they always say they are working to find work for the effected people, so that certainly sounds like layoffs.
