Let me ask this. Is it really so easy? Because I hate it when a game plays almost itself.

It isn't that easy.  It's just impossible to see the Game Over screen.  You'll die plenty of times, but you'll get lives much quicker.  The game is all about mastering the levels after you beat it and getting as many coins as possible in Coin Rush mode which actualy does make this Mario game completely different, but what do I know?

Oh, and that guy in the video is very annoying and not funny at all.

Are you british?

I have realized that Jeremy Jahns is the best reviewer in the Internet because if a game is not good he says even if he is a huge fan of the franchise. Unlike 90% of the people on this forum.

So he lost four lives in a row and got the golden feather? And then he says the game is easy?

What a looser.

Jeremy Jahns is my number one critic! Glad to see other people follow his videos.

Any who, I haven't played it but I have heard others talk that it's just too safe a game. You get a lot of 1Ups and you have done it all before. I can only assume if you LOVE Mario, you will like it. If you're not a drooling sheep for the franchise, then you would probably find it mediocre at best. By videos I have seen, it doesn't look that appealing. Now if they would just make SUPER MARIO RPG 2 ALREADY maybe I could move on with my LIFE! (And not that paper Mario shit)

Super Mario RPG 2 came out about 12 years ago rebranded as Paper Mario. There is a sequel to that one coming out on 3DS - the Wii paper Mario is related in graphical style only in terms of how it plays, and is actually an interesting Platformer; far more interesting than the New Super Mario games in my opinion.

Ehhh, I want a real sequel to it, not the spiritual successor, plus the graphics really put me off.

Never played it

No it's not bad, it's just more of the same. It's like pokemon games. They are amazing games and people love them but it gets average reviews because they dont change much. Games like this dont pay attention to critics too much

If you played a mario game before, the difficulty is pretty much the same with the most recent games, if its your first time playing, you might find it somewhat weird/difficult at first but will get used to it fast.

I recently played...pretty much all of the mario games (side scrollers) from the past and some in the current and I ended the games with these number of lives (the older ones were the hardest):

Super Mario Bros (NES) = 7 lives
Super Mario Bros 2 (NES) = 17 lives
Super Mario Bros 3 (NES) = 40 lives
Super Mario World (SNES) = 75 lives
Super Mario Land (GB) = 9 lives
Super Mario Land 2 (GB) = 22 lives
New Super Mario Bros Wii (Wii) = 72 lives

Dont listen to the guy in the video though, seems like he isnt really good at the game. Nintendo recently implemented some sort of user friendly system where if you die a lot , they offer some sort of feature that will help you finish the stage (in the case of New Super Mario Bros Wii and Donkey Kong Country Returns - They play the level for you when you get stuck but you dont get rewarded or anything for completing the level, the game doesnt recognize that you finished the level).

^ Of course that is optional if you die a lot in some places. The places where you will die the most will probably be in fortresses and castles and a few levels with some pit holes etc.

you just told me not to listen to jeremy...

I think it's a really good game. Regarding the video in the OP, I actually agree with a lot of what he says (although that guy is FRICKIN' ANNOYING!), except that I would certainly rate it higher than just "rent it".

Still, I do expect "U" to be even better.

Don't you ever speak negatively of Jeremy Jahns again.  You hear me?  NEVER!!  That man is a saint, sent here from heaven above to review movies and video games.

WIth that out of the way, I think the game is a little better than he makes it out to be and I had a lot of fun with it but, when judged against other Mario games and how they rank against other games of their time, I have to say that the leap between this game and the ones before it are almost non-existent.  It's still better than the first two but just by a hair.  I personally love the series but, if their was a NSMB collection and all of the levels were tossed in randomly, I don't know if I could tell where one game originally came from (aside from the power-ups).

I was listening to the bombcast last night and the guys were saying it was shit compared to the Wii version. They said Super Mario 3d land was 100 times better.

It was a cheap cash in that was all.

You came to that conclusion by using someone else's opinions? Nice.

Its maybe a 8/10, its certainly no Super mario Bros 3.

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

Lol, well I've never seen the guy before this video, but just based on it alone... sorry, not a fan.  He comes off as one of those people who tries waaaaaay too hard to be funny and instead only succeeds at being annoying (my opinion).

I do, however, agree with much of what he said about the game (save for the end "score") and he made a lot of valid points, so it wasn't what he had to say that was the problem for me, but the delivery.  Perhaps he's more likable in other vids, but after seeing this one I have no desire to see him ever again.
