And another thing, the company's total revenue went down, not just profitability. So, if windows 8 isn't awesome like the msft fans are hoping, then it could mean a slightly worse level of mediocrity from msft.

Sorry, what?

Please explain to me how in any logical sense you can use that word when describing a company that has only made one Quarterly since April 4, 1975 , and has been in the top 10 corporations by market capitalization every quarter since 1998?

Below-par Q or not, mediocre has no place there.

In terms of revenue growth, msft is really slowing down, and since you mentioned marketshare as your big argument basis, realize that windows 8 isn't getting a lot of positive expectations by analysts. So, apple's Mac will be cutting into pc sales a bit.

70 million, what a nice milestone for MS. Amazing the turnaround both they and Nintendo have pulled off this generation after Sony dominated the two previous rounds. MS could really "win" the next generation.

That is a pretty nice profit for Microsoft. Wonder how far Nintendo&Sony are lagging.

The market disagrees, as the stock price of msft dragged down after the earnings announcement. Both revenue and earnings dropped by a significant amount.  Jeeze, this thread has everybody hugging msft's nutz, but only readings a positive spin on things.

Aww, did evil MS take a piss on your cereal? Don't worry, I bet they are pretty happy spinning that 5.31 billion any way they please.

it's still a nice profit even if investors expected more. apple, google, samsung...they are all down the last weeks/months (ok google was some crazy happening^^). so are they all doing bad or are investors just too crazy to expect electronic companies growing like hell every freaking quarter?

On a video game forum, there is little point in spinning MSs reports negatively since it far and away surpasses what Nintendo and Sony pull in.
