Sony has been selling better World Wide for a long time now.

ACCORDING to official results and the 360 shipment in Q1. 360 outsold Ps3 in 2011

HOWEVER unofficial reports doest say so.

You take your pick.

lets just say inconclusive, and move on. MS discussion only.

@RenderMonk -  this isn't the place to have this discussion being it's about MS.

decrease 1% revenue but Income dropped from 340m to 19m?Guess because WP

About what I expected from them, next quarter should be rather incredible for them though. Also looks like Vgchartz has the 360 pretty spot on.

15% rise in XBL users brings the total up too?

Income dropped from $340m to just $19m.

Not too bad! A few things lower than previous, but no really huge surprises here. All in all, not a bad quarter for them. I imagine they'll be well up next quarter, so things should even out quite well. Have to hand it to them, even in 'off' quarters, they still pull in pretty reasonable numbers.

I believe next up is Nintendo, but that's not for a few days or so, if I recall?

It looks like vgchartz has the 360 pretty much spot on. Also, when Microsoft says there has been an increase in XBL users, does that mean Silver and Gold? Or just Gold?

People keep saying 360 is spot on. I don't think so but that just my opinion.

Overtracked by 300-400 k?

Yeah, all that Windows phone and next Xbox research stuff is killing the profit in that division. The 360/XBL must be pulling in some pretty incredible profits to subsidize all that.

This makes me wonder if Microsoft will announce when the Xbox brand becomes entirely profitable (I can't forsee them becoming profitable until next gen though due to the next box's research and all that).

@Kowen: What do you think the 360 is at? Also do you have a link to your days of console supplies thread?

Silver and Gold.

Games Industry

Microsoft has announced its first-quarter earnings for the period ended on September 30, and the Entertainment and Devices Division, which houses the Xbox and interactive entertainment business, saw revenues roughly flat year-over-year at $1.95 billion while operating income dropped precipitously, down 94 percent to just $19 million, but at least the company remained in the black. Shipments of the Xbox 360 console dipped from 2.3 million to 1.7 million units for the period.

A large part of the blame was attributed to the tough comparison with last year's blockbuster release of Gears of War 3. "Video game revenue decreased primarily due to the release of Gears of War 3 in the first quarter of fiscal year 2012 with no comparable major releases in the first quarter of fiscal year 2013," the company explained.

Overall, Xbox 360 platform revenue decreased $418 million (24 percent), "due mainly to lower volumes of consoles sold and lower video game revenue, offset in part by higher Xbox LIVE revenue."

Microsoft as a whole announced quarterly revenue of $16.01 billion for the quarter with net income of $4.47 billion. The current quarter will be a crucial one for the company with the release of Windows 8, the Surface tablet, and in the Xbox space, of course, Halo 4.
