With wealth comes food, shelter, clothing and all the other basic necessities of life (in massive abundance too). With your basic survival needs satisfied and no fear that that will never change, a person's scale of happiness should be at least halfway fulfilled (5/10). And then other things like education should really bump it up a few points imo.

Material wellbeing doesn't have a straight correlation with happiness.

A rich person can be an unhappy, miserable asshole and a poor person can be the happiest, most cheerful person on Earth.

Happiness is more about perception of what you have than about what you actually have. It's very subjective.

Yes, but if a person has enough wealth to satisfy their basic survival needs without read of that ever changing, in addition to things like opportunity for higher education (which opens the doors for a lot of possibilities in life), don't you think they should be at least halfway happy? I admit 7 was probably too high for some people.

I'd say while it has increase since last time I saw a question like this on this website, still only at about 4/10. Work's got better and I'm buying a house, but the house is causing issues and stress.

Hmm, pie.

That's quite a shallow post from you Jay. Wealth isn't everything, infact it's almost NOTHING. Perspectives of what is good and bad changes from person to person. There's no such thing as having a good day everyday, to have a good day, you need a bad day to compare it to. My family are a lot better off than they were 8 years ago, but I'm nowhere near as happy as I used to be.

By the way, when I said your post was shallow, I meant it lightheartedly. Just incase I came off as too serious.

I still disagree, a person can have everything and still be miserable, a person can have very little and still be happy. The scale out of 10 is also subjective, a 1/10 is the lowest point in their lives, not somebody else's.

Fair enough...we can't agree on everything.

I'd put myself at a 9 (as voted)

Great job, living in a new country for a year, broadening my horizons, extremely excited about the future, extreme upswing in amount of demand from the opposite sex.

The only reason I'm not a 10 is because I miss certain things about home (friends, family, western food, mainly). I'm sure over the next couple of months, the homesickness will increase relative to everything else, so I'll probably drop to a 6 or so within that time, then climb slightly to a 7, and float there until I go home.

After that, who knows?

I started this topic on another forum and so far it's 5.16. 36 votes. Vgcharterz are happier.

If we were to mention the worst year of our lives, I would say 2009 followed by 2008 for mine.

If some of you guys is suffering from depression I highly recommend you get professional assistance. Depression can fuck one's life really, really bad (you don't say).
