Forums - General - Halfway through the Fall semester - how are you doing in school?

We have a quarter system so we start a bit later. Our first mid-terms are this week. And yeah, you are wrong about thinking college is easier than HS. The classes you're taking are easy, but once you get further into your major then you'll find yourself putting a lot more work.

Much better than last year (now 3rd year undergraduate Natural Sciences), now that I'm doing less Physics and no Mathematics.

Physics is now only Electrodynamics and Statistcal Mechanics, which are easier than the Quantum and Relativity courses I would otherwise be taking.

History and Philosophy of Science, I'm slowly learning is an Arts subject and you can basically write whatever you want as long as you have essay technique.

Only thing I'm not liking is 40 hours of lab work within the next 2 weeks on top of 14 lectures, 4 tutorials and example sheets.

Physics - Meh

Maths - Poor

Chemistry - Great

Geography - Good

Chinese - Great

I'm certainly working harder than last year after getting slightly disappointing grades.

quarter system on my MBA program.
have 2 subjects:
operation management and statistics. will have midterm in two weeks... my fingers are crossed to get a 4.0 this quarter.

I'll follow Brendude's format:

IT - Good

Geography - Good

English Literature - Great

Computer Engineering - Couldn't be better

I'm ahead of the class in 2 subjects, and I've only missed one deadline for anything. I'm really proud of my performance this year, gonna try hard to keep it up. I'm doing MUCH better than I did in the 2 GCSE years, and school is just generally better - a lot less drama, a lot less BS, and I'm having a lot more fun.

Not bad. There's a few that seem pretty receptive when I offer to buy them vodka but the teachers are getting a bit suspicious of me hanging around the gate. I'll keep you posted

I'll tell them you're just picking me up.

By now it should be halfway through the Fall semester for most people in college and I assume high school. How are you doing so far?

Me:

Microeconomics - B+. Mostly a powerpoint lecture class. Somewhat easy homework (though the HW is why I don't have an A...yet...maybe...hopefully) which I do every Thursday and our only test so far was open book.

HDFS - B+, closer to an A-. Will be an A after my teacher updates grades. Not sure how to describe this class. I've done one presentation as the ost major grade so far and lots of minor stuff like goal planning, some research, and a MBTI test. Really easy class, but I have a B+ right now cause I was supposed to read a book and never did and we had a quiz. It was onky 15 points though. Will have an A when all is said and done so whatever.

Math - B+. Mostly an online class where I do a crapload of problems on some program called ALEKS. It's annoying. Though it's saving my grade since I got a D on my first test (mathzz is hard). If I had a graphing calculator I would've aced it though. Meh.

English - A+. MY SWAG IS OFF THE CHARTS. But seriously though. I just checked this today and...WTF? A+? How is this possible? It seems some of the BS assignments were worth 100 points. Hell yeah? I have like an 88 average for my essays if I added up my first two essays (which you're allowed 2 revisions!) and an A something for everything else. I do well on essays but they take FOREEEEEVER to write. At least with me. It's a good thing there's a good payoff.

Spanish - F. OK, not really. My teacher still hasn't put up any grades and I have no idea what grades will be like. Most of what we've done is homework which she hasn't given us a grade for. And the HW is ridiculous, it's too much BS work that takes forever. I'm assuming participation will be a big factor since she calls on everyone A LOT. My participation will likely be OK, I guess. We had one test that most people bombed ince she expected us to learn like 60-80 words in a day. Yeah right. We also had one test that I'm not sure she'll even count since it was a boys vs. girl test lol. Girls won with an 88, we had like a 60 some lolz. Spanish is hard, yo. Then again I haven't had a Spanish class in 2 years. We have a take home exam that I better do well on.

Am I weird for thinking college is easier than HS (with getting good grades I mean)? It's a lot more work, but I'm still doing better than I've done in HS for a long time, at least for now. Not having tests every week for every class is nice.

Drop Spanish and pick up Japanese.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I only made 1 student cry this semester... Usually I have 2 or 3 so I'm a bit out of form... Yes we teachers compete on how many students you can make cry in a semester... A bottle of Scotch is at stake .

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Digital Electronics - A
Computer Operating Systems - A
Technical Writing - Only had one assignment so far and it looked like he wrote tB so I'm guessing that's B +
Electronics II (basically amplifiers) - A
Electrical Machines - D+/C- this guys makes his stuff too hard for the students but curves it at the end so I don't know what I really have in there
