It's not something for the law to deal with, it's something that people need to be educated about; schools need to be more aware of, parents need to be more aware of and so on. You can't outlaw just not being nice to people. |
But that doesn't take away the fact that something needs to be done about it. Yes, I don't think you can make cyber bullying illegal, but there should be some kinda help for the victims provided.
Also, just because the images were supplied by her doesn't mean it's okay to just free distribute them. It's still child porn no matter if the subject was willing or not.

no, she did not send her photo to everyone at her school. someone recorded her, without her consent, and then sent an image of her exposed chest to people she knows because she refused to "put on a show" for the individual.

Before her death, she apparently watched this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgRa_wl7-jY&feature=plcp Which seems to be an obvious inspiration. She asked the maker of the video to "Inbox Me". Just troubles me how this was able to escalate to such a degree. |
Say Lewis, didn't you beat up your friend at school together with 10 other kids? How is he doing now?
Surely we don't have the whole story behind why everyone disliked her like that?? You can't just hate someone because she flashed her boobs. That doesn't make sense.
Granted the people were very cruel however the internet is full of keyboard warriors that do this to everyone everyday.
That girl did some stupid things so she should have expected a fall out could occur. When the blackmailer first showed up this is when things should have been wrapped up. But instead they just esculated further and further till she ended up sleeping with someones boyfriend.
Also, it is concerning that this blackmailer wasn't stopped by police considering they resurfaced a year later to terrorise her again. Did they not know about them still after her death?
Also wtf were the parents doing? The alarm bells were all there, the self cutting and ending up in hospital from drinking bleach. Whenever a problem arised their best solution was to keep moving to another city? Running away is not a solution as things will always catchup to you.
Totally agree that this world has become very cruel, when even her own friends deserted her. Then again I am not surprised as my parents always taught me to only rely on yourself as most friends will be there when you have something to offer but when you need them the most they will not be there for you. I use to think that that statement was jsut BS, but the more I see stories like this the more I believe they are right.
Personally I think I am lucky as I grew up in a time where cyber bullying was none existent as when we had issues we sorted it out in the yard and that was the end of it.
Finally, in all honesty I don't think there is a way to stop this kind of bullying happening in the future, unless it become criminal offense, or if everybody fucks everybody till we all the same colour shape and size. We can all learn from this by ensuring that we form close bonds to our children so when a situation like this arises you can help them through it rather than sweep the matter under the rug and hope it doesn't come back.

Maybe in principle, but I don't trust a government to implement it correctly. For example, a cyber restraining order would likely be done by requiring real names and addresses on internet sites. Also, just because the images were supplied by her doesn't mean it's okay to just free distribute them. It's still child porn no matter if the subject was willing or not. Illegal to further distribute, yes. Illegal for her to possess and distribute herself? |

Yeah I know but everyhting seemed to have started with her showing her boobs. She had to move because of that...

As crazy as that sounds, yes. Again, it's still child porn by the legal definition, no matter who distributes it. Again, it's not the intent that's taken into consideration, but rather the end result. You can't give consent under the age of 18.

If the underage individual took the picture (and it can be proved it was taken of their own volition) it should be a lesser charge than existing child pornography laws (where the intent of the law is to punish those who exploit children. If it's just kids being stupid, it's a different story), but still something should be done abou it.
