Forums - Nintendo - Activision Says Wii U Version Of Black Ops 2 Not Natively 1080P

GotGame

Nintendo fans have no doubt been excited about Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II making its way onto the Nintendo Wii U next month (Nov. 18 to be exact).

However, after the publisher had previously stated that the game could run at 60fps and at 1080p, gamers have been asking the question as to whether or not that 1080p is native or if the console will upconvert it.

Today, Activision confirmed to us via email that “The game is not natively 1080p”, which of course means that it’s the Wii U that will be able to upconvert it, since the system supports the format.

In addition, the publisher also confirmed that the Wii U version of the game will also feature the re-imagined Nuketown map, for those who pre-order the game.

interesting he didnt bother posting the actual email... But i do wonder what the native Resolution is

Well all be darned. If pikmin 3 wasn't going to be in 1080, why would COD be?

Actually, the wording they used before was "Full HD", minding to never say 1080p. Assumptions went wild, but it was all, in the end, just a marketing tactic. By the way, Wii U has no hardware upscaling. So if it's native 720p, it will be displayed as such. 640p vs 720p seems to be the power difference, at this point, between the PS360 and Wii U.

Boomshakalaka, now we shall see some meltdown!

*covers face*

As expected. Wii U will primarily be a 720p platform, with 1080p reserved for less intensive 2D content on the eShop mostly.

620 vs 720p (+480p).  While the gamepad is not very high resolution, that 480p isn't free.

No kidding. I'm shocked, SHOCKED I tell you!!!

In all seriousness though, the fact that it runs at 60fps while using both screens is more than enough reason to get the Wii U version.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

All they've ever said about most games is Full HD. Full HD is a marketing gimmick to make you believe it can be 1080, but most of the time it isn't. I think we are we're going to have to wait for Lens of truth or similar sites to do the break down and get real answers.

Ouch, I really though WiiU could pull it off.
